If the Celtics  introduced a new alternate that was attractive and utilized a black and gold color scheme, would you guys want them to wear it full time?

If the answer is yes, you’re in denial or just delusional.

If the answer is no, what’s the difference between this metaphor and Miami’s vice jerseys. They look great, but that’s not the Miami Heat brand that has been consistent for the last 20 years. You guys didn’t want Utah’s Red Rock to be full time; keep the same energy with Miami

The Celtics are the most tradition-rich team in the league. The Heat have some tradition, but certainly not on the Celts’ level.

I really wonder what my Heat will do for the City edition.

In all honesty, I wish they just went Vice full time and retired our current sets. Nothing wrong with them, but we’ve had the same look for over 20 years over multiple different eras and ever since the Vice was introduced I can’t get over it.

Agreed. I wish the NBA would overhaul their uniform program altogether. Heat could wear white, pink, blue, and black versions of their Vice design, and a throwback to the red alt of the Hardaway years. I feel like that’s the best way they could go. As it is, they’re one of 57,623 red and black teams.

They're gonna build a wall, and it's gonna be a beautiful wall 🧱

Well, it’s New Orleans, so they actually did build a big beautiful levee to upgrade on the old one after Katrina. Did a fantastic job too - when they were hit with an even bigger hurricane years later, the damage was much, much less severe.

After seeing the Yellow Packers uniforms I'm wondering if EA made it up or was planned but got scrapped cause I've seen jersey that wasn't wore...

    Rams: Gold

    49ers: Gold

    Buccaneers: Black

    Raiders: Silver

Did the Rams have a one-off metallic gold jersey like the Saints,  or am I just remembering seeing it in Madden?

I remember the silver Raiders jersey. I would sometimes use it in place of the white on the road when I played as them.

Not sure if I can quite remember the 49ers’ gold alt from the game. I didn’t play as them very often.

Imagining a black alternate in the 1997-2013 Buccaneers’ set, it just *feels* like a fashion jersey. Could it have ever been in their plans, then scrapped at the last minute? I feel like that was the case with the gold Rams jersey, but I could be wrong.

Oh, and while we’re on the subject of 2000s Madden...can’t speak for other platforms or years, but Madden ‘08 for PC had a bizarre alternate for the Cardinals. I feel like it had to be a glitch that somehow slipped past both programmers and  testers...basically, the helmet was black, or a really reflective metallic charcoal color. I’m not even sure what the jersey and pants (this was prior to mix-and-match) looked like because the helmet design is all I can remember. It was mind-boggling. I’ll look for pics.

I'm usually against thinking that one team shouldn't do something just because it's similar to another team. But I think the 5 alternating stripes thing should just be the Browns and the Saints. Even the Saints color rush (which should be their full time) wouldn't be killed by losing the striping pattern. The shade of gold and the number font are what make that uniform.

The Saints’ Color Rush NEEDS either solid black socks, or white socks with black and gold stripes in said five-stripe pattern. The shade of gold is wonderful, the gold numerals are great, but they need...I mean, ideally, a new set designed around that aesthetic, with pants in that shade of gold with black/white/black stripes. And no plain white socks, ever.

I support the idea that more teams need striped socks. Mostly because I hate the solid white socks look (even more than the leotard look)

This is what comes to my mind when I see solid white socks with dark pants:

Foos (the higher the socks, the downer the foo)

So yeah, more teams need striped (or contrasting) socks

When I see plain white socks, I feel like whoever designed the uniforms stopped without being finished. Similar to a matte black helmet (or car).

Hot take, I know, but I think the Bruins look better with black socks than gold socks.

The color scheme makes much more sense with black socks, and the striping pattern actually matches the jerseys. I know there's a historical basis for the yellow socks, but in retrospect, they stick out like a sore thumb imo.

That striping pattern is pretty sharp.

I did not say college did not have striped pants, I said pro pants all had stripes from the mid 20th century until the rams came out with their stripeless gold pants in '99.

Never thought of that, but you’re right. Of course, the vast majority still do. It’s just that some of the stripes are funky.

One of my favorite things that differentiated the pros from the student-atheletes for several decades was pros had pant stripes and did not wear solid white tube socks. Those days are long gone.

Even back in the day, OSU, Southern Cal, LSU, Georgia, Miami, and some of the other big programs had pant stripes. Now the socks, on the other hand...yeah.

What I’m saying is that not everyone needs striped socks. Packers, Broncos, Bengals, Raiders, Lions, Panthers, Buccaneers, Steelers, Eagles, Giants, Texans, Chargers? No need.

Bills, Chiefs, Bears, Browns, Saints (long as they insist on those ugly black pants)? Yes, please! Plus other teams whose pants and socks often blend together...Jets, Dolphins, Falcons, Vikings...they could even do custom sock striping.

49ers, Colts, Cowboys...I could go either way with them. Indy would probably be the first of those three that I’d give striped socks, if only because it would cancel out those hideous plain-white socks that they’ve taken to wearing on the road.

While I work on implementing some feedback given let's take a look at the Red Sox. The Home and away are again pretty much untouched; only change is the socks are added to the sleeve of the home uniform as well. For the alternates I kind of cheated. The Sox have had some iconic uniforms throughout their years and I couldn't pick just 2 for the throwback uniforms so I took the pullover uniforms from the 70's and made that into a red jersey. The Away alternate is a call back to a uniform the Sox have worn on and off since the 30's, but with the current team font. The Home throwback teams look back in 1908 with an added cap logo; while the away throwback comes from 1932 with an added logo as well

Looking at the throwback away, I was wondering when the Red Sox have ever worn a hat with an L on it...then I realized.

I'm not as warm on the silver pants as you are. The blue color rush pants would be perfect with the black and white jerseys, especially if they ever switched to a blue helmet. I do agree that the black pants don't look good with either the black or white jerseys. They should be reserved exclusively for the blue jerseys.

The Panthers should just remove the TV numbers, problem solved. The shoulder stripes look great ever since they switched templates in 2019.

I think the two color is what makes them pop, I'd hate to see that go.

I don’t know if this opinion is popular on here, but I think Carolina’a best look is black jersey/black pants/blue socks. I think the black pants are pretty solid. It just annoys me to no end that they choose to pair them with black socks.

I decided I'll just use this thread to post my City Connect tweaks for each team as they roll out. Today we have the Marlins:

Even though I actually really like Miami's City Connect colors, I wanted to try the design in a teal and orange scheme which I've long felt are the colors the Fish should use full time. I also made the front panel of the cap white so the crown logo pops a little better. C&C appreciated!

You could also go full pinwheel for the hat, with an orange back panel.

I liked the Brewer's previous identity much more than the current one. The colors were perfect, as was the hat logo. The wordmark could've used some work and I could've lived without the drop shadows but the grain theme was well executed. It completely fit the team name in a unique way without being over the top.

Their new brand completely whiffed on the colors first of all. If they were going to change one of the colors back to their retro look, it should've been blue. This is the only instance I can think of where I prefer gold to yellow. A large part of the reason is the connection to the grain theme. Navy also just looks bad with yellow. I don't like navy at all in sports branding, but it looks especially bad with yellow. The MB logo is just a visual pun with no meaning or life. The jerseys are completely lifeless. Just a complete downgrade all around.

Agree that navy and yellow is an extremely overrated combination. I also thought the wheat color and associated logo were both underrated.

That said...BiG is iconic for a reason. I can’t imagine it with the wheat color, either. I agree that royal and yellow would’ve worked great in this context.

y'know, I'm willing to wager inaccurate NASCAR paint schemes count for this, so I might as well point out that in a lot of NASCAR games (at least the '00s EA Sports ones), some of the drivers' sponsors are censored for promoting products that wouldn't fly in an E-rated game (good examples being Dale Jr. and Rusty Wallace's Bud and Miller Lite schemes being reworked to just spell out their own names). the funniest one, though, is probably this one I discovered playing Thunder '04 a bit ago: they had to change Mark Martin's Viagra-sponsored car to Pfizer.

Pfizer? Pffft. Bet it doesn’t go as fast or last as long as it would with the Viagra logo.

  16. The Eagles have never had a truly elite uniform set.

Silver wings with no outline? Looks unfinished, and the uniforms were boring. Excellent colors but boring.

Green and white with no silver? Blah.

Jaws/Vermeil-era? Too stripe-heavy, plus they didn’t have logos on the uniforms yet.

Buddy Ryan/Randall Cunningham-era? Too plain. Good but not great.

Current? Too much black with a color (midnight green) that doesn’t properly contrast with it, and not enough silver.

Aside from the hideous all-black alt look that will be receiving a black helmet this year, they’ve never had a truly TERRIBLE look...it’s just that it always feels like something is missing.
