  1. It's lame and kind of unfair to other cities that could definitely support an AHL team. The NBA G-League is even more guilty of this (12 teams basically in the same city or metro of their parent club. Do teams in these leagues care more about convenience than attendance and fan support? I'm still a bit salty that the Erie Blades only stuck around for one season in the AHL in the 80s and the Erie Bayhawks had decent attendance but kept getting dumped by their NBA affiliates and no longer exist. Now we're just stuck with the OHL and AA baseball. Neither really interest me anymore.
  2. My favorites are when they use Back in Black and it's a school that has never worn black before or Ice Cold when it's a school in like Texas or Arizona. I don't mind white over white. I do dislike adding a white helmet just to go stormtropper, like the Bengals have done. It's unnecessary. Unless a team adds a white helmet to make a throwback historically accurate.
  3. The "our team is so " reaction to all black uniforms is hilarious. Both from fans and players. Congratulations on looking like 1/3 of the NFL. All-white is just as bad. The question is does your corny social media team want to market it as "back in black", "the dark side", "icy white" or "clean"?
  4. Nike has worked with the NFL since 2012 and we're yet to see any "city" unforms or crazy alternates. The most extreme thing that's happened was the addition of Color Rush uniforms. Which, to me is basically just the football equivalent of Reverse Retros. I think there's this huge misconception here that Nike always has unrestricted creative control over entire leagues. If the Leafs want black jerseys or if the Devils want a Jersey jersey, the manufacturer will give them what they want.
  5. Browns are deciding between 4 field designs. 2 have variations of the elf logo at midfield. The other two have it in the endzones. Great move. Now make one of the the primary logo and ditch the helmet. My pick would be the running elf.
  6. Nike has only been involved in designing 1 of the 15? new alternate helmets and it's the Commanders black lid. The Celtics have had black and even gray in the uniforms since the Adidas days. The irony is that Adidas literally made NBA teams wear jerseys with sleeves, tire tread patterned super tight football jerseys, and an asymmetrical navy/gold helmet for Notre Dame. Reebok forced most of the NHL into templated edge jerseys with random colored panels and unnecessary piping. But people are are afraid that Nike is going to ruin the NHL. Hmm okay.
  7. Everything they make is horrible quality, ugly generic designs and somehow it's just as expensive as anything made by a big name company. Not to mention they created a monopoly and have complete control over all major sports fan shops. Seems like over 90% of everything on NHL shop website is made by them.
  8. CCM would keep the NHL looking the same for the next decade. If that's what you want, they're your answer. Their CHL/AHL uniforms aren't bad, but also aren't anything spectacular. As much as people around here hate Nike at least they would bring some creativity to the table. Remember clients drive the bus. If the NHL is looking at the NBA/MLB and wants some "city" uniform money, that's what Nike will give them. If they want something like Reverse retro Nike can deliver that too. The jersey manufacturer has no power to force a league or team to do anything. Using Nike's Olympic/International uniforms as a knock against them isn't really fair either. Those don't sell like pro uniforms and only last a short time. They aren't designed to be overly unique and last years or even decades. There's no need to worry about every team being forced into a template. Especially after the debacle we saw with the Edge templates.
  9. Guess Iowa was pissed that a CUSA school had a significantly better logo than their horrible bird+ballsack logo. The bigger schools will always win in a trademark dispute, regardless of how ridiculous it is. And those same schools can rip off smaller schools without repercussions like Pitt did to FIU.
  10. Wish we could get some brand consistency in the "Notre Dame" or "Irish" fonts in these Shamrock Series uniforms. Probably doesn't bother anyone else, but seeing them use the Yankees font, the celtic font and now this act deco-ish font bugs me. I don't think using their standard wordmarks would really feel that out of place because they still match the ND monograms being used.
  11. Well basically the Zips look now is pretty similar. Just with slightly different striping and gold numbers. I'm so relieved they've moved back to a primarily blue/gold school and just mostly blue/white.
  12. For as much hate as the fisherman jerseys got, it's a million times better than almost all alternates they've had the past 10 years. Find a way to make the NOB and numbers fit without warping them and I think they'd be on to something cool.
  13. The Bengals bringing back an outdated jersey just so they can wear the Zebra helmets is pointless and unnecessary. The worst part is that neither of the white uniforms are anything special. At least when other teams have two jerseys of the same color, one is usually different enough or at least an improvement over the other. Other teams' Color Rush jerseys added a pop of color to the numbers and throwbacks go back to prominent eras. The Bengals old color rush uniforms do neither.
  14. Fixed it for you. I don't see how Nike can be blamed for any of these helmets except for the Commanders. They didn't call the Saints, Bears and Bengals and said "Hey we need to sell more jerseys, how about you let us design some terrible helmets." Blame the teams, players and fans asking for this stuff. The clients are paying the bills and are going to get exactly what they want.
  15. The Magic, Jazz, Suns, Cavs and Raptors 90s uniforms belong in this group too. Wish we'd see them all back more often.
  16. Love the Spurs pattern. They should embrace it on all of their uniforms similar to what Georgetown does. Unfortunately I think too many will focus on the terrible SATX wordmark and that will overshadow an otherwise awesome jersey design.
  17. All accounts seem to indicate they will be wearing the throwbacks and Color Rush at some point this season. Not having a plain white helmet to pair with the throwbacks makes zero sense. That has to be the easiest possible helmet to get your hands on. If the Cardinals can have a custom painted helmet, there's no excuse. The Browns do like to surprise people. They kept the orange pants a secret until week 2. This is my only hope.
  18. If we're playing that card, I think Louisville had black helmets in the 80s and have worn a hundred variations since. I don't think anyone is going to turn on the TV and think to themselves "WTF is that Ball State doing playing the Seahawks!?"
  19. Showing up here after any team does anything...
  20. The Cardinals have always felt too close to the Vick-era Falcons. The black helmet just pushes them even closer. Could have been so much better with decent uniforms. Can we stop with the awkward player reactions though? They seem so forced and cheesy.
  21. The helmet alone isn't terrible, since they did have orange helmets at one point. But it just doesn't work with the orange jersey and would look even worse with navy or white jerseys. Probably the most unnecessary alternate so far. Also seem to be pretty well disliked across social media. Something that hasn't happened yet.
  22. There were teams using alternate helmets as far back as 1925 and they were allowed up until 2012. I just don't see how bringing back alternate helmets for 3 games max will turn into a free for all like other leagues. There are plenty of rules blocking "city" or extreme themed uniforms from ever seeing the field. Teams can't randomly add colors, or logos or anything else to an alternate unless it was used in the past or is present in their current branding. So unless Miami is adding pink to their normal jerseys, we'll never see Miami Vice happen. The NFL has, as far as I know, had the 5-year uniform rule in place for at least a decade. Same for the alternate uniform restrictions. The NBA, MLB and college sports couldn't care less what teams wear or how often. As long as the numbers are legible and there's nothing offensive, they are fair game.
  23. The NFL is stubborn when it comes to branding and it took years and years of teams literally begging to wear alternate helmets to get them to budge. No other league has the amount of rules in place that the NFL does. We've seen Nike work with the NFL for what 10 years now? The craziest thing they did was Color Rush and while people here hate it, overall it has been a massive success. Everyone jumps on Nike, but aside from the Commanders I highly doubt they have any control over these alternate helmets. Why would they? Then don't sell helmets and have no financial incentive to force them on people. This is 100% being driven by teams.
  24. I feel like these comments are completely overdramatic. NFL teams wearing a different helmet for 3 games a season is nothing compared to other leagues. NBA, MLB, college teams and soccer teams have "city" uniforms throughout that sometimes have zero connection to their team's brand but rather their location. Variety is popular in sports and fans don't want to see the same uniforms every single week.
  25. Luckily we'll never see anything crazy like pink for the Dolphins since the rules are tight (for now). They would need to add "vice" colors to their normal home/road uniforms to do so. Basically the only reason we see black on the Commanders road jersey. I'm assuming the Ravens will go purple, Chargers navy, Seahawks silver, Steelers in yellow or Bills in red. Browns in plain white seems like a no brainer, but probably the most boring helmet possible. I'll probably get destroyed for this but I wouldn't be opposed to them trying something Brown with stripes if they are going to wear the minimalist Color Rush set. Not sure the best way to handle the stripes though. Either two orange or the normal brown-white-brown with a thin orange stripe on either side, like Ohio State's black lids. Anyway it probably will never happen anyways.
