I’ll consider it a good thing if I can afford a ticket to a match. Until then, it’s just a pain in the ass that I’m going to deal with for a month. I am happy on some level but I am really not looking forward to even more people moving here.

Apparently 25,000,000 or so people visit here annually. Pretty sure they’re counting layovers at KCI, but it’s been bad enough with the new people coming in buying up houses and thanks to this, it’ll get worse. The local Chamber of Commerce has a boner three times as large as normal but the average person is going to suffer.

Great, looking forward to all the FTs invading. Thanks FIFA.

Washington Commanders to debut new NFL identity
Red Comet replied to DCarp1231's topic in Sports Logo News
The best part is that if those were the Commanders actual colors instead of something an intern slapped together for June, it would still be less busy than their actual current uniforms. -
Both professional teams in Baltimore were called the Browns before moving there. The Cleveland Browns are obvious but the Orioles were the St. Louis Browns before relocating.

The Rite of Spring: 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

Traditional polling over the telephone has enough issues with reliability anymore. An online poll is just laughable as far as getting a result with usable data. -

AFAIC, the only thing useful about polls are trends. So you’d have to ask this same question repeatedly every few months or so to even get the one bit of data that would actually be of use to anyone. -
NHL Anti-Thread: Bad Business Decision Aggregator

So long as Bettman is in control? Yeah, I agree with you. Feels like trying to make hockey work in Arizona is his great white whale he’s hunting and he intends to finish the job regardless of whatever it costs him. -

On one hand, glad I’m not the only open Gundam fan here. On the other, it’s sad that the one thing stopping this insanity is going to be a suburban city council. -

The Kansas City Scouts were less embarrassing than this. At least they knew when to fold them and relocate. The hell is Gary Butthead even thinking with this? Or hell, what the hell are the other owners thinking to sign off on this? -

Here’s an archive First paragraph tells me everything I needed to know “Within their agreement to play at Arizona State next season, the Arizona Coyotes and their owner, Alex Meruelo, will be required to avoid notoriety, or the team could be forced to look for another place to play.” Good luck with that. -
The stadium thing isn’t even the most shocking bit. To me, I don’t know why you’d buy a half million dollar helicopter and then try to cheat the taxman. I know politicians think they’re invincible but that’s just so egregious it was begging for an investigation. Hell, this whole saga has been an intro class to public-private collusion.

Considering a suburb of Raleigh is colloquially known as the “Containment Area for Relocated Yankees”, I don’t think this will work like they think it will. -
Introducing (yet again) one of the toughest schedules in the NFL. Weeks 4-9 is going to be the toughest stretch with every opponent having made the playoffs the year before and that’s before Weeks 11-15 where the Chiefs play at Arrowhead only once and that is against the Defending Champions. The AFC West is going to be a brawl and taking home their 7th straight AFC West Title, appearing in their 5th straight AFC Championship Game and making their 3rd Super Bowl in 4 years is going to be quite the uphill battle for the Chiefs. Getting rid of Tyreek Hill certainly downgrades the passing attack but seeing as how Tua’s deep ball makes Matt Cassel look like Brett Favre, the Chiefs will win long-term. The defense being overhauled is also another question mark, but the Chiefs are less rebuilding and more reloading and as a result are going to field one of the youngest rosters in the league. Even if nothing really comes of this, at least I can say they didn’t rest on their laurels like Seattle or Green Bay.

Jokes aside, I’m pretty sure this awkward transition to the inevitable 18 game schedule has the AFC and NFC teams alternate having the extra home game every year. Hopefully by 2025 they do transition to 18 so that this doesn’t remain an issue but they could keep this number of games for the next 40 years for all I know.

Well I’ll be damned, they’re actually making the Big XII meaningful again.

How else are they going to minimize losses if this moronic arena plan actually becomes a thing next season and they aren’t in Houston or Quebec City? Pretty sure the arena that hosts our local ECHL team has a higher capacity than this arena. Oh well, not my problem if the people running the Yotes are as economically illiterate as a high school freshman. -
I prefer actual football to titillation too, but if you can’t be viable with talent, then you’d need to compete in other manners. It’s Business 101 and there isn’t exactly a big market for women’s sports to begin with so the more base appeals make sense if you’re trying an alternative league. In theory. Turns out if dudes want to spank the monkey, they’ll watch porn for 10-20 minutes over spending 3 hours watching inferior football, who could’ve guessed?

At this point, my belief in these spring leagues is “Trust, but verify”. I want there to be viable competition/alternative to the NFL but every league I’ve seen so far has failed to even come close with only the UFL and NFL Europe lasting more than a season in my 32 years on Earth. I hope the best for the players and coaches, but I’ll have hope in its viability if/when Season 2 rolls around.

Because our chimp brains think the more monkeys are in the stands, the more exciting it has to be. I wish I had a better reason than that.
