But at the end of the day, these are also used for merchandising and to generate more money at the end of the day.

We will never know, but I'd love to know how much revenue will increase by wearing these alternates. Alt jerseys and mini helmets have been available for a long time. They sell at some level even though some have never been worn (yellow Packer jersey, for example). Will the Eagles sell more black helmets because they wear them than if they didn't? How much of an increase might be offset by brand dilution?

Again, we will never know. Anyone who says these programs are ____________ ,popular is offering their own opinion. Nothing more. Me included😁

I think that's where ESPN/Fox/CBS all cut one check for all the sports to each school and then it's divvied up based on who brings in what. So football and basketball players cget a bigger cut than the track team, lacrosse, and baseball.

But the sports aren't all broadcast by the same entity, so that isn't what happens. Each sport negotiates its own contracts.

There's an ongoing issue with the search feature that I'd like to point out.

When you run a search, if there's multiple pages of results and you click to go to the next page, it counts as a new search, and you get the "please wait for 30 seconds" message, meaning you're stuck when you're just trying to find what you searched for.  Also, it counts such ordinary actions as sorting as new searches, meaning you can't even do that.

The search feature is light years better now than it was a few years ago, but it's still really difficult and inconvenient to use if you have to be so precise that you nail it on the first try, otherwise have to wait however long just to sort or go to the next page, then if you mess up, start all over.

Could it be you? I just tried it, clicking once on the 'next' button, and then on page 3. No issue like you describe. Running Chrome on a PC

This shows how much better this helmet looks with black bumpers, full hardware and chinstrap.

If the NFL can move away from its white half-sock rule, allow Color Rush uniforms, and now alternate helmets, they could at least allow teams to switch to this hardware, where appropriate.

    No, it doesn't.

I feel like these comments are completely overdramatic.

NFL teams wearing a different helmet for 3 games a season is nothing compared to other leagues. NBA, MLB, college teams and soccer teams have "city" uniforms throughout that sometimes have zero connection to their team's brand but rather their location.

Variety is popular in sports and fans don't want to see the same uniforms every single week.

Yes we do. It's the sport's aesthetic. It's a team's brand. It's the best look every week and over time, not a trend started somewhere else.

Semi pro squads are notorious for stealing whatever logo fits closest to their nicknames. In the 1990's there was a semi-pro team named the Cleveland Lions. From foot to toe they copied the Detroit Lions uniforms.

Absolutely aware of that. I worked in that realm for 5 years 🙂

Even the inhabitants of Cestus III saw this one coming...and news didn't have to travel by freighter. This is exactly what the orangeless white pants were designed for. Jungle Kats...welcome back.

Now, maybe unpopular opinion time: we'll first, the NFL should maybe kill the whole color rush designation, anyway--at this point, teams are mix-and-matching whatever they want, anyway. But as it involves the Bengals, I think their current white jerseys would go just fine with this helmet. The little bit of orange accents (and do doubt the orange accessories some of the players will wear) would actually do more to set this off, not less. Plus, Cincy's fans (& apparently a number of others) love the Jungle Kats look, so shoot...roll with it!

(All that said, someone tell them to 86 the nemo pants, though...totally unnecessary.)

I love that designation. That is all.

Don't the Ohio State uniforms have black in the stripes?

Sure. As do the Dallas Cowboys. Neither REALLY has black as part of their traditional color scheme.

Again - tOSU refers to itself as the Scarlet and Grey.

  9. I know these are not actual stripes, and that they are lighting effects. (Yes, they're also off-centered - it's the idea)

But I kinda like the effect that there are white stripes flanking the black helmet stripe. It matches the white outline on the logo.

I shouldn't like this. But I kind of do.

No, I meant tOSU. They will ALSO wear an all black uniform this year. Black is not a color found in the color scheme of either tOSU or the New Your Jets. If you are the Scarlet and Grey, or Big Green, how about you wear those colors?

Steelers fans are about to have company in being unhappy with their stadium renaming. Sources saying the Bengals are close to a deal for naming rights to Paul Brown Stadium. As a Bengals fan, Id be okay if they did the Chiefs route like they did with Arrowhead and have the field named with the stadium name being retained, but if they wipe out the Paul Brown name completely, its gonna be war.

    Why?

I get it, my team is likely to be the last to sell naming rights. If that ever happens.

If it did? Meh. It's still Lambeau Field and the same experience, plus the team would have additional money to put toward upgrades.
