  1. the ones in my wettest of wet dreams. I meant that the helmets were different enough from the jets to avoid confusion. id love them to have silver helmets.
  2. To me, the Jets should always have been just a green and white team. I remember them adding the black, and it somehow looked... I don't know the right word for it, but "softer". And at the same time, the Eagles were already kelly-ish and black, and I felt like the two teams should look a little more different (not that anyone was confusing the two, given the Eagles silver pants and helmet wings.) I don't know if it was BFBS considering the state of merchandising at the time - they may have simply thought it looked better or was a way to freshen up the look without any significant changes. But either way, it didn't work. The only good thing that came out of it (and this is debatable) was the green pants. I think they're unnecessary, but it's nice for them to be an option so long as they don't go full green.
  3. I don't disagree at all, but to my point, the latter was happening regardless. I don't get needing a joint when I'm going to work on the subway at 7:00 AM (it's actually worse on the trollies for some reasons that I can only speculate about) but people gonna do what people gonna do no matter what. I'd rather invest the resources in fighting crimes that have a higher impact than on controlling the uncontrollable. But you're right, and it sucks.
  4. This is a very naive take, as it assumes that if it's not legal, people aren't walking down the street to the local bookie to place bets if they want to. I can tell you from first hand experience (not placing the bet, but knowing the daughter of a bookie who may or may not have been mob connected) that it was huge business, and somehow, they still get action. People who want to are just going to do it illegally (and get their legs broken when they can't pay their losses), so might as well legalize it, regulate it, and tax it. It's not for me, but someone with a problem is either going to lose their house legally, or lose it illegally, which leads to even worse things. No need to waste limited resources stopping things that can't be stopped, so just make it as "safe" as possible, and instead of spending money policing it, make money by taxing it.
  5. I'm probably overthinking it and trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist, but is there any benefit to the league buying and dissolving the Coyotes and then "expanding" to Utah? You'd lose the ability to trace the team's lineage to the old Jets, but at this point, is there any value in maintaining that? If the new team doesn't start its life out under the Coyotes nickname, then maybe making cutting all ties to the Coyotes franchise and simply pretending they didn't exist, would be nice. And even though it's all made-up BS, if AZ ever got another team, they could "Cleveland" it and resume the lineage, even though everyone knows how the logistics really worked.
  6. Don't want to see a guy get hurt like this, but knowing the Braves, they'll call some guy up that'll actually end up being as good or better. Normally I'd think this helps the other teams in the NL East, but I think the Braves are pretty much bulletproof (until October.)
  7. Likely no. They'd have to work out a whole permanent identity, including logos, uniforms, and a full brand strategy, and given that Fanatics can't even get MLB uniforms to the teams in time (and those are pre-existing designs), there's zero chance they'd be able to get stuff to NHL teams (or get merch in stores - I forget if they actually make the NHL uniforms). MLB is top of their food chain. NHL... probably close to the bottom.
  8. My guess is they'll be the Coyotezz for a season while working out a permanent identity. Like the Tennessee Oilers before becoming the Titans. If Fanatics can't even get MLB uniforms to clubs in time, there's like zero % chance they'd be able to produce and distribute new Utah NHL jerseys in time, considering NHL is probably at the bottom of their food chain. Even if they went totally generic for a season - like those Jazz two-tone-blue unis.
  9. It's not awful except for the squatchee/squatcho. Some of these hats are alright. I broke down and got a 39thirty Phillies City Connect hat, though I'm going to take a seam-ripper to the "Philly" that's on the back (in a font that neither I nor any of my friends have seen around Philly, despite the idiotic Nike Speak about it.). I also take exception to the formal / official use of "Philly" in any and all circumstances. Phila is perfectly acceptable, as it's used all the time for things like mailing addresses and it's an abbreviation.
  10. The Browns and Bears in domes feels so wrong. I see those two teams as kinda the representation of American football - classic-traditional uniforms, they play where there's real autumn weather, and there's something about being in the midwest / rust belt that just seems "footbally" to me. Brown and orange in natural light contrasting against the green of natural grass makes me tingle in places that I probably shouldn't. I've said before that I think all new stadiums should have some kind of cover (at least a Safeco-ish type), and I'm not really backing down from that, but the covers should only be used in the most extreme of circumstances (for football) - and there should be national laws that dictate that the roofs must be open 90% of the time (with violators serving up to 5 years in a federal "pound-me-in-the-ass" prison.). But I'd make exceptions if it meant keeping teams like the Browns, Bears, maybe Packers as true representations of American football.
  11. I think this was the intent. They just completely botched the on-field ones and didn't care enough to fix it (or were prevented by rules.)
  12. unfortunately, many of those hundreds may not even be given the "opportunity" to uproot their lives. But it's true that there's marketing staff, accounting, and other full-time jobs that are impacted by any move. I don't think anyone is celebrating their fate (though I do think that there's people don't even recognize that pro sports is more than just the meatheads wearing the uniforms.) With all due respect to the FTEs that are impacted by this, I'm not sure that it's possible for the average person - myself included - to view this from any other lense than that of a fan who is tired of the whole league being brought down by this complete joke of a franchise that's been sucking money and resources from taxpayers for a decade (or decades). Taking a job with an unestablished pro-sports franchise comes with risk. It sucks for the IT guy, but they bet on black and the ball landed on red.
  13. IDK, there’s been plenty of great hard-throwing pitchers that never needed TJ. I’m leaning towards the “spin rate” argument* since that’s a relatively-recent fascination, while there’s been guys throwing high 90s for a while without issue. I think what’s more likely to happen is the rebirth of Greg Maddox-ish pitchers, who have outstanding command and can be amazing without needing to throw 100. I would imagine that there’s kids now that are discouraged from being pitchers because throwing 100 is almost a pre-req for the job, but maybe more doors will open for guys who aren’t overpowering but are still effective. *the pushing of guys to blow their arms out and hit 100 on every pitch can’t help matters either, and there’s certainly more of that - seemingly the Latin American pitchers, but that’s just an observation that’s unsupported by actual numbers.
  14. The solution is AI pitching machines. They can read the sign from the catcher and make the right pitch, but the programming would tell them to randomly miss a spot here or there, and some days the machine just "doesn't have it", and you have to "swap it out" by selecting a different program (like have it throw from the left side, or specialize in off speed pitches, etc), and you can press the button 4 times a game. Not like a human-looking bot, but it could just be a machine, with a guy standing there to field the position. Then teams could employ a hacking staff to tweak Pitch Bot's (not to be confused with Hitch Bot) programming to add a couple MPH to it or reduce the randomness of its misses.
  15. horsedick-jacked. I've been here a long time, and this is a first.
  16. Oh I know, we just went through the exact same thing here on our waterfront (the Sixers lost the bidding, and their plan would have included their new arena, hence their pivot to the most controversial project that I can remember. I was being facetious.
  17. yeah, A and/or D. I don't "get" it, but if it makes you happy and you have room and budget for them, no reason to stop. You can always sell them later if your kid doesn't want them, and/or set up some kind of rotating display if you have a room for that kinda thing. And if a relative is over and sees one they like, you can be a good guy and give it as a gift.
  18. Hopefully the provision doesn't all for an "of Utah" thing. Like the Salt Lake City Somethings of Utah. I still stand by my bet that if SLC ever gets a permanent MLB team, I'll change my board name to the most self-degrading or ridiculous thing that the mods will allow. After yesterday, "Bisexual_Undertaker" is the leader so far (though that'll be a tough sell to the mods.)
  19. Nike: "Challenge accepted"
  20. Is "pre-emptive Tommy John" a thing? And if so, is it just because it helps reduce the current inevitability of needing it during their career, or that (anecdotally) people come back even stronger from it? If the latter (which might not be the case), shouldn't that be considered like a performance enhancer? IF it's used as a way of making yourself a better/faster pitcher with increased longevity, it seems like a little shady. Might not be a thing, but if it is...
  21. Because I think it'd look cool, that's why. In other news, tf is going on here?
