Your favorite Olympic sports

What are your favorite Olympic sports?

I like aquatics. Swimming and diving are something you don't see very often on television and this is the perfect time to watch it. My sister is on a swim team, so that is probably a contributor to my enjoying of aquatics.

I also like track & field, also known as athletics. Yet another you don't see very often on television. It is exciting to watch, however, especially the running and cycling.

One last one is gymnastics, which has been my favorite since I started watching the Olympics in 1996, although athletics might be my new favorite. I particularly like vault, rings, and bars. Rhythmic gymnastics is not my kind of gymnastics, but I'll watch it anyway.

I just like little nubile pixish girls in leotards! :rolleyes:olympic2.gif

"I better go take a long walk off a short pier or something."

Some people on this bolard have told me to do just that.

I like to watch almost all the events, but my favorites would have to be Athletics, Diving, Hockey and Football(soccer).

I also love the Opening Cerimonies, just to see all the different countries. Matter of fact they start right now.

I love watching the opening ceremonies just to see how the host nation will light the Olympic Flame! My favourite so far, of the ones I have seen, comes from Barcelona in 1992; the archer launching the flaming arrow into the torch!

The events I enjoy watching the most are athletics, cycling and rowing. Although, I like watching all of them.

Trying to pass off some soft-core porn on me, Rog? I bet it'll also involve a stained pommel horse, if you know what I mean!

I was watching some of the Opening ceremonies, I came in during hte US entering and fell alseep after Canada. I saw all the flag bearers had slings nad both hands carrying the flags, but there was this one guy, I can't for the life of me remember the country, but they said he was a Judo participant, holding his flag right out at arms length in one hand and it didn't look like it bothered him one bit. he looked like a man you do not want to mess with, or have to face.

my favorites are teh head-to-head-I-wion-you-lose competitions, anything judged I refuse to watch.

I'll be watching the cycling, footracers and wrestlers

Ice Hockey. It should be part of both the Winter and Summer olumpics.

As far as the Ceromonies go. I hate them and shows why the olympics can't be considered a true sporting event. First off why are the athletes walking, in every sport I've ever played I have been told you hustle going on the field, during play, and coming off the field. Yet, when they enter the stadium there walking, I feel the athletes should run in, it would be more exciting imo. However thats not why I hate the ceromonies (it's just something that drives me crazy, but I can understand why they walk.) What drives me crazy is this dancing, and stuff like that. That's not sports. Do they have this type of stuff before game one of the World Series, or Cup finals. No. I would also assume that they don't have that type stuff before a big soccer match in europe. No, introduce the athletes (in this case countries becuase thier are too many athletes), do the oath, and light the tourch (that's like the first pitch imo).

I have caught a bit of the athletes walking in, I saw the US and Canada come in. I must say Allen Iverson couldn't look less gangster. also I must give a thumbs up to the female Canadien athletes, very fine.

Another thing that drives me crazy about the Olympics is NBC. How don't care how money they pay they should not be covering the olympics becuase they don't know the reason why people watch sports. People watch sports because sports are mostly unpredicable, thus they are meant to be shown live not when you already know the results. If I want watch sports were I already know the results I will watch ESPN Classic. Also can they show the real sports on NBC instead of some cable channel. I don't mind track and swiming becuase those are sports, but not gymnastics, gymnastics is not a sports becuase there is no clear winner, sports aren't decided by humans judgement. I want to see more baseball and soccer on on NBC.

The dancing is the artistic expression of the host nation's history, it is often said the truly great athletes are like poetry in motion; poetry is a form of artistic expression. You see what I am getting at? Actually you are wrong, some nations hosting the World Cup or Euro Cup have dancers or some form of theatre drivin opening ceremonies. You seem to be contradicting yourself here, you said you hate the opening ceremonies because the athletes are walking in and then you say, and I quote "However thats not why I hate the ceremonies." :therock:

[judged competions] are not sports because there is no clear winner, sports aren't decided by humans judgement.

amen brother

If you want to get technical, a sport "consists of a normal physical activity or skill carried out under a publicly agreed set of rules, and with a recreational purpose: for competition, for self-enjoyment, to attain excellence, for the development of skill, or some combination of these." You cannot entirely get away "judging" in sports, most at one time or another rely on human judgement. Your refusal to recognize judged competitions as sport shows complete ignorance.

The walking in just bothers me a bit. Not the reason why I'm watching the Yankees game now instead of the olympics. I can deal with the walking, and I rather like the olympians coming into the stadium, it bothers me that they walk but I still like it. As for the Artistic part, that's the part that turns me off of the olympics.
