I agree with you on one point jkr, that sports like syncro swimming really shouldnt be in the olympics, as they are decided on a matter of opinion. Too much corruption, and biasm occur at events like this. However these sports take tremendous athletic ability, and are very physicallyu demanding. Its a tough call...

The walking thing? I dont see your point. Theyre not playing any sport, theyre just being presented in the stadium to represent their countries. When theyre playing, they should run, but this is just for fun...

The dancing and stuff? I enjoy it. Its a way for the host country and city to show their history and culture.

Anyway, my fave olympic sport is the kayaking, when they have to kayak throught the gates in the crazy rapids. I love that

Well, the walking thing is more of a pet peeve of mine. I think it would be interesting if a country ran into the stadium.

I like sports, however I am not an art type person.

Have you not been paying attention to anything I have posted? Sports are artistic! The following is an abstract from wikipedia.org which backs my premise;

"Sport has many affinities with art. Ice skating and Tai chi for example are sports which come close to artistic spectacles in themselves: to watch these activities comes close to the experience of spectating at a ballet. Similarly, there are other activities which have elements of sport and art in their execution, such as performance art, artistic gymnastics, Bodybuilding etcetera.

The fact that art is so close to sport in some situations is probably related to the nature of sport. The definition of "sport" above put forward the idea of an activity pursued not just for the usual purposes, e.g. running not simply to get places, but running for its own sake, running as well as we can.

This is similar to a common view of aesthetic value, which is seen as something over and above the strictly functional value coming from an object's normal use. So an aesthetically pleasing car is one which doesn't just get from A to B, but which impresses us with its grace, poise and charisma.

In the same way, a sporting performance such as jumping doesn't just impress us as being an effective way to avoid obstacles or to get across streams. It impresses us because of the ability, skill and style which is shown.

Art and sport were probably more clearly linked at the time of Ancient Greece, when gymnastics and callesthenics invoked admiration and aesthetic appreciation for the physical build, prowess and 'arete' displayed by participants. The modern term 'art' as skill, is related to this ancient Greek term 'arete'. The closeness of art and sport in these times was revealed by the nature of the Olympic Games which, as we have seen, were celebrations of both sporting and artistic achievements, poetry, sculpture and architecture."

From my point of view, just looking at competitions where the results are based on a judges observations and opinions, it's too subjective for me.

I don't want ot discount what these atheletes do, I respect the training and dedication these people put into what they do.

To me, if you want to see who truely is the best, say in for example, diving or sycn. swimming, you have to have them line up and perform the same moves, comparitivly. When it's two diffferent competitors doing two different movements or routines, to me, it's extremely difficult to say that one was better than the other.

That example relates more to figure skating, which my Mom watches religiously, and not to all jusged sports, but its just he way I feel about judged events, and I end up contracting myself in the Winter games becasue I love to watch the freestyle skijumping

No one ever argued they were not subjective!

I love watching the opening ceremonies just to see how the host nation will light the Olympic Flame! My favourite so far, of the ones I have seen, comes from Barcelona in 1992; the archer launching the flaming arrow into the torch!

That's my favourite as well. The best part was that the archer actually got it in. They had a continency plan in case he missed. But that one shot and he got it in. Wow. Muhammed Ali's was a great sentimental choice, but that cauldron in Atlanta. WTF WAS THAT?

I saw, I came, I left.

Trying to pass off some soft-core porn on me, Rog? I bet it'll also involve a stained pommel horse, if you know what I mean!

Go back and try again.

Those links are to the same pictures.

Also why did you "quote" my sentence but not my name considering that me saying my name is still a quote of mine? I did not say the "", nor do I appreciate you misquoting me like that.

Rog, I was only having a little bit of fun, if you know what I mean. The "nubile little girls wearing leotards" and "stained pommel horse" lines were meant to be jokes. (I actually lifted the "stained pommel horse" from MXC's "Almost Live" special!) And BTW, the links still don't work, because you can't link there from here! Or something like that.

i like all the sports that have hot chicks competing like beach volleyball and of course gymnastics lol

but seriously i like baseball and wrestling the best.

the 'hot chicks' in the gymnastics are all about 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I flick on the olympics every now and again, the swimming is pretty good usually, its sometimes interesting to see the boxing and see if there are any prospective pro champs there (i remember seeing Roy jones Jnre being robbed of a gold in Seoul in one of the most scandalous points decisions ever, which is one reason why they brought in the punch by punchg scoring system they have now!) And the athletics. Other than that rowing, because Britaqin will get the odd medal there, cycling, er,m thats about it really!

can't stand gymnastics at all, somehow don't mind the diving too much though!

I think sixteen is the minimum age for "women's artistic" gymnastics.

My favorite olympic sport is probably the closing ceremony. In all seriousness, I tend to favor team sports. But after watching the cohesion associated with pro sports teams who've spent time together, amateur teams just pale in comparison.
