Loyola Ramblers

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else think the wolf logo is very outdated with the Loyola logo?  I'm talking about the L with the wolf head.  The head logo looks like it was done by a kid or at the very least, done a long time ago and never updated.   If I am correct, is there a design reason for this?

Loyola Ramblers Color Codes Hex, RGB, and CMYK - Team Color Codes

I think it works for what it is. And seeing how bad some other school logo changes have been lately I'd be afraid to see what they'd change to.

Getting rid of the gradient in the letters and the beveling  would go a long way.

This is typical of Phoenix Design Works. Extra bevels, gradients, and illustrative logos.

Is there a reason as to why their mascot is a wolf?  A Rambler is someone out in country, is it not?

The wolf is on the family crest of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Namesake of the school.

The Shield of Oñaz-Loyola is a symbol of the Ignatius family's Oñaz lineage, and is used by many Jesuit institutions around the world.

As the official colors of the Loyola family were maroon and gold, the Oñaz shield consists of seven maroon bars going diagonally from the upper left to the lower right on a goldfield.   The Loyola shield features a pair of rampant gray wolves flanking each side of a cooking pot. The wolf was a symbol of nobility, while the entire design represented the family's generosity towards their military followers.  According to legend, wolves had enough to feast on after the soldiers had eaten.

A rambler is basically the same as a nomad or a wanderer. A lot of college teams that lacked permanent home venues back in the day were nicknamed Ramblers.

Guessing the wolf was chosen by a combination of Loyola being a Jesuit university (wolves are an important Jesuit symbol) and wolves being a "rambling" animal.

Basically this...notably, before "Fighting Irish" stuck, back in the day Ramblers was a popular nickname for Notre Dame football.
