Another British team has been bought by an American. London city Lionesses, formerly Millwall Lionesses, have been bought by Michelle Kang, owner of the Washington Spirit. They are currently in the second tier Women's Championship, and are 9th in the league. The team actually requested that the former owner be forced to sell the team so that they could remain competitive.

The Super League may be back on. We'll see who makes the jump a second time with this.

"The proposal from A22 says the new competition would include the continent's top clubs in men's and women's football. In the men's competition, the top tiers - the Star League and the Gold League - would each consist of 16 teams while the Blue League, the bottom tier, would consist of 32 clubs with promotion and relegation between each tier. The teams that finish in the top eight of each league go into the knockout stages, with quarter-finals and semi-finals played over two legs and the finals held at neutral venues.

The bottom 20 teams in the Blue league would be relegated from the competition entirely and replaced by the top-performing clubs from European domestic leagues. The two teams that make the final of the Gold and Blue leagues would be promoted up a tier, while the two teams that finish bottom of the Star and Gold leagues would be relegated down a tier. Matches would be played in midweek, allowing the new competition to be run in tandem with European domestic leagues. The proposed women's competition would be run on a similar model.

"Our position has not changed. We remain fully committed to participation in UEFA competitions, and to positive cooperation with UEFA, the Premier League, and fellow clubs through the ECA on the continued development of the European game."

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/39335573/sheikh-jassims-man-united-bid-provided-no-proof-funds

According to the article, Sheik Jassim repeatedly failed to provide proof that he had the money he needed to purchase Manchester United. I guess that helps explain why the Glazers kept dragging this out then. Still doesn't mean I like them, but at least they didn't split and leave United in a situation where they could be in a pinch like Everton.

"It was announced on Christmas Eve that British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reached an agreement to buy a 25% stake for £1.3 billion ($1.65bn), more than a year after the team's owners, the Glazer family, revealed their intention to undertake a "strategic review" in November 2022. Ratcliffe's deal is set to be ratified next month.

A filing on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission detailing United's search for either a new owner or new investment has showed that Raine, the merchant bank handling the process, initially entered into 26 nondisclosure agreements with interested parties.

Following months of talks, Sheikh Jassim officially informed United of his intention to withdraw on Oct. 15, 2023, with sources close to the bid citing "frustration" that the Glazers' valuation of the club was "unrealistic."

Sheikh Jassim's bid was for 100% ownership while the SEC documents show that Ratcliffe began to pivot towards an offer to buy a minority shareholding, rather than majority ownership, in the summer of 2023.

The deal will see Ratcliffe and his INEOS team, headed by Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc, assume control of football operations once the agreement officially gets the green light".

Ronaldo banned one game for making hand gestures at fans who chanted "Messi" after he beat then 3-2 on the weekend.

Paul Pogba four year ban upheld. Not sure if CAS can knock it down a bit, but even if it's 2 years it could all but end his career. He's 29 and 4 years out of organized soccer won't help him.

What a frustrating career- never should have left Juventus.

I feel like the same thing could have been said about leaving United the first time. The second time he came through he was constantly getting hurt and dealing with royal bell ends like Graeme Souness didn't help. That guy still tries sticking the knives into him and he's been away from England for three seasons now.

Interesting fact:

Last weekend was the second time over the last few weeks, that the 2. Bundesliga had a higher attandance than the 1. Bundesliga.

I'm a simple person, I have a pixelated David Beckham as profile photo since 2010.

And United look no better on the pitch. Newcastle exact revenge on the Red Devils 3-0 in Old Trafford in the League Cup

Speaking of domestic cups: absolutely huge upset in the DFB Pokal. Third tier Saarbruecken shock Bayern at the last minute of stoppage time.

Kaiserlautern ended the cinderella run of the Saarbrücken team in the Semifinals
