If I was a jersey advertiser, I would have wanted something in the contract that states I was the exclusive advertiser on the uniform* (which includes hat/helmet).  I wonder if this was the plan all along and MLB specifically prohibited any clauses like that.

*the jersey, pants, and hat have obviously had ads for years, but I mean non-apparel ads.

I doubt that ever even came up, especially with that wording it would mean no Nike logo, or any other makers mark on equipment would be allowed.

I'd love to see one of these deals.  I imagine they're all the same (other than the money) since it's a league-wide program with league-wide regulations, but I'd like to see the legal lingo.

I'd also love to know how much they're worth.  I think some of the deals have leaked, but I want to know what the Phillies are getting to whore themselves out to IBX.

According to this article, the Yankees get 5x as much ($25M/y) as the Reds ($5m/y)  (also the Cubs have to have a "motorola razr room" (explicitly lowercase.))

Something it the Northwest Mutual (Milwaukee Brewers) guy says that doesn't quite make sense to me is: "In part, says Northwestern CEO John Schlifske, because “We’re spending $1 billion downtown on our campus. But ultimately, to attract employees to Milwaukee, we need to be a big league city, so having the Brewers here is a huge part of that overall package when you live and work and play in Milwaukee.”   YOU'RE NOT SAVING THE BREWERS AND KEEPING THEM IN MILWAUKEE.  YOU'RE NOT A HERO.

It's true that without the Brewers and Bucks, Milwaukee wouldn't be thought of by many people as "big league" (if even people have even heard of it,  Those of us that grew up in the Laverne and Shirley days certainly know, and those who drink Schlitz or Miller products might have noticed, but by in large, the average person probably doesn't need to know about Milwaukee IMO.)

Something MLB really didn't need: yet another way to increase the revenue disparities between the haves and the have-nots. (I almost wish the Orioles hadn't gotten good again. This would otherwise be a great time to wash my hands of MLB,)

There is no revenue disparity (other than 50% of revenue from the stadium itself) MLB uses revenue sharing. Then once you include salary taxes and such you can’t be mad at “revenue disparity” for a team performing lousy. The only reason is an owner not wanting to invest into the team.

My only useful takeaway from this Red Sox season, apart from making peace with the fact that we're just Anaheim now, is that while I've been red-first for a long time re: their color distribution, Tristan Casas bringing back the navy undershirt and giving me 90s throwback vibes actually works pretty nicely for me.

Baseball used to have the best aesthetics of any league. The doubleknits were so clean, classy, and detailed. It made sense why an authentic was a couple hundred dollars. Now you have this screen printed, heat pressed garbage coming out from Fanatics, they’re like $500, and the real authentics are plastered with corporate ads like a damn NASCAR firesuit. This is so blatantly and brazenly for nobody except the owners. I don’t know why in the hell ANY fan would be interested in any of this any longer.

I guess they’re still getting somebody’s money, but it sure as hell ain’t any more of mine.

Are local TV/radio rights included in the pool?  Because those vary drastically between the teams with >$1B deals and the teams that practically pay to have their games broadcast.  You're correct about owners being cheap, but I think the disparity is more than you're thinking (otherwise they'd agree to a cap like the NFL which has national TV deals and the regional radio deals probably aren't as significantly different as baseball ones are.)

Unless things have radically changed (and no one bothered to let us know) you are 100% incorrect.

(Unfortunately, the chart in this article is sorted by market size, but you should be able to get the general drift...)
