I actually really like the cream colored font, I think it lends to a little bit of a “dusty” western feel to the logo, which fits well for Texas.

I really love this logo and its execution. The slightly rough, almost hand-drawn looking edges throughout are a really nice touch that lends a bit more to a rugged look. The color scheme is excellent too, and that roundel behind the state has a cool bandana pattern kind of look to it. Between this year’s ASG logo and next year’s, the MLB is doing a much better job with the logos than they are with the ASG uniforms for sure. Hopefully they can keep that momentum with the logos going for a few years.

I don’t disagree with that, but I think it’s the biggest issue I have with it. It reminds me too much of what the Astros used to use. Feels very strange for the Rangers, especially considering they use white instead of cream in their set. The rest of the logo, though? Pretty good!

Hopeful Predictions:

Hopefully Marlins embrace the teal and bring back the 1993-2002 Teal Spring Training Tops as a Friday Alternate!

Tigers City Connect will be themed around the 1994 Away redesign and the Tiger on the English "D" with the Orange Bill Cap will make a return.

Kansas City's Away Blue Alternate will go back to "Royals" script.

Diamondbacks have embraced Teal this season as a Team Color accessory and will have a new Teal Alternate as either the Sedona Red or Black will be eliminated.

Angels bring back the classic and better looking 1973-1992 California Angels Home Uniform as an official alternate.

The Royals are one of those teams that should just play off of the nickname and not push the city, other than maybe an occasionally-used alt (or city connect, now that those exist.)  They have a great script and (if they tried) could have some other great imagery to form a great brand around, and frankly, "Kansas City" takes up 10 spaces and is kinda clunky when spelled out on a uniform, and isn't a city that people outside of it are going to buy anything that says it (unlike a city like LA or NY.)  Just "Royals" (like how the Angels are just the Angels, the Raiders are just the Raiders) has a lot of potential if they went balls deep into it.

Is it teal or turquoise, I never see those two colors at the same time.

Both of the shades of blue/green the D-Backs used were called Turquoise. The dark shade that the team used in their original branding was called Arizona Turquoise, which was dropped along with purple due to being very hard to consistently match across fabrics, and the shade the team introduced in 2014 which was a lot lighter and less saturated.

What's your source for this being the reason?  I thought it was just realitively-new owners wanting something that was theirs.

From the Mothership -

Teal and purple are notoriously hard to match across fabrics and textiles. For a while, the team could get away with T-shirts and helmets and jerseys that almost but didn’t quite match, but within a few years of the team’s debut, the technology to display those imperfections on TV did exist, but the technology to fix those imperfections did not.

Thanks.  While the mothership is no better of a source than Wikipedia (and the part you posted isn't attributed to anyone), this part is actually attributed to someone and supports what you said:

“It was nice to bring it back and at that point, just textile and fabrication and production processes had changed where the purple on the helmet would match the purple undershirt or the belt was the same color as the sock,” Rossini said. “Even in five, six years, it’s amazing how that process had improved, where you’re like wow, we can nail this uniform.”

I like the ASG logo, but can't help but wonder if MLB is going semi-standardization with the logos from here on out with that...not to mention, the 2023 postseason logos are using that style too.

As far as an O's prediction, I'm sure they'll have found an ad patch by the time spring training rolls around. It would also be nice to see them modify the City Connect to expose the color pattern a little more...outside of at least incorporating it into the cuff of the sleeves so it doesn't have to be stitched or rolled up, I have no idea what they can do though.

Now they can actually get the colours to match, the Diamondbacks should bring back the Purple, Copper and Arizona Turquoise, the finest colour combination that Peyote can buy.

For me it brings us back to the concept that the Rangers, not Astros, should've been the ones to utilize a western-themed color palette and built an identity around that. Seriously, a team named the Texas Rangers uses a boring old blue and red color scheme? This ASG logo really shows how fantastic it could be if they leaned into the western imagery a bit more. I'd love to see the Rangers use that sand color as a road uniform color a la the 2004 San Diego Padres. They should do something interesting with what is currently one of the most boring and forgettable brand identities in baseball.

I know it was the pre-HD era, but were the mismatched colors that noticeable?  I'm pretty attentive to minor details like that, and don't recall noticing (though I didn't have HD until around 2005, and I'm not even sure any games were in HD then.)

How is the Rangers' identity NOT western-themed? Yes their colors are red and blue, like the state flag of Texas. And they're named after a state agency. Yet they use western style/influenced fonts and numbers. They actually do a pretty good job of blending state-driven aspects with the typical western imagery (outline inconsistencies and drop shadows, notwithstanding, of course).
