"And in a related item, the franchise formerly known as Les Expos de Montreal will change its name to...Buford."

Actually, it's the Buford Pussers.

Do you realise you just corrected yourself?

And it still made zero sense?

The City of Los Angeles has joined Anaheim in opposing Angel owner Arte Moreno's proposal to change the name of his team to the Los Angeles Angels. In a nonbinding resolution, council members officially decreed that "Los Angeles is currently home to one and only one Major League Baseball team, and that is the Los Angeles Dodgers."

Meanwhile, the team has offered a compromise to Anaheim, saying it would change its name to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

City of Anaheim officials rejected that offer too, and reiterated that they will sue the Angels for breach of contract if they remove the city's name from the team.

In a related story, several other California-based professional sports teams have announced changes to their names. Effective immediately, the following team names will be used:

MLB - Brooklyn Dodgers of Los Angeles, New York Giants of San Francisco

NFL - Los Angeles Raiders of Oakland

NBA - Minneapolis Lakers of Los Angeles, Philadelphia Warriors of Golden State

No word on whether we'll soon see the Kansadelphia A's of Oakland or the Buffalo Clippers of San Angeles.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if he decided just to move the team because of this

Does it not occur to him now that he's going out there telling advertisers his scheme, that they're not going to pay more money?

I think he knows he's fighting a losing battle, but doesn't want to back down now after going through all the trouble and with it in the media.

Well, the team doesn't have an option to get out of its lease at Angel Stadium until 2016. So, that gives Arte about 11 1/2 years to put together a stadium deal in another community - maybe somewhere in Los Angeles County. That way, he can accurately brand his team as the Los Angeles Angels.

If Moreno was so damned concerned with operating a MLB team in Los Angeles, why the hell didn't he inquire into buying the Dodgers? After all, FOX had been making noise about selling the franchise long before Frank McCourt eventually bought the team. Murdoch's desire to unload the team was one of the worst kept secrets in sports.

Major League Soccer already has a model solution. They should be called the Los Angeles/Anaheim MetroAngels. :D

THe Metrostars no longer have "NY/NJ" in front of their name.

They are simply the Metrostars. One of the best moves they could have done.

What about the Rocheanattansas City-Omaha RoyalKings of Sacramento or the Los Angeles Chargers of San Diego? And the Buffalo Diego Brave Clippers of Los Angeles was mentioned as well.

"I better go take a long walk off a short pier or something."

Some people on this bolard have told me to do just that.
