STADIUM PITCH

A public relations firm representing Betcris.com, a sports book casino and poker room, distributed a news release Friday indicating the company's willingness to bridge the Marlins' stadium funding gap by offering a lucrative contract for naming rights to the proposed new ballpark.

Betcris.com might contact Major League Baseball to arrange a meeting.

The Marlins declined comment.

MLB president Robert DuPuy indicated in a May 12 letter to local politicians that the stadium project needs an additional $45 million in funding, including $15 million in land acquisition near the Orange Bowl.

This sounds like a company just wanting to get some attention.

Betting and baseball. Don't think ol' Selig is going to like this association.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

What is the other option? Move them to Las Vegas?
