sekuloguy
John Abraham has just signed his 1 year tender, but he's wearing 56. What's up with that?

leafs13
It's probably just for the Preseason. Can you wear 56 at DL? I remember Bryan Cox wore #0 in the Preseason a few years back.

Jeff faine the center for the cleveland browns wears # 50. but if linebackers can wear numbers in the 90's i guess lineman can wear numbers in the 50's. Yes, I believe Centers can wear numbers in the 50s and LBs can wear numbers in the 90s. What are you getting at?
sekuloguy
im just saying that i've been a jet fan for all my life and after 5 years to see john abraham to change his number from 94 to 56 is weird and somewhat depressing, because the 94 looks good on him. For real. He should have waited until after he leaves the Jets (if that ever happens) to change to #56.
Breakwood
I dont know what the rule is in the states but in Canadian football only Offensive linemen have to wear inelligible numbers, i think its 50-79.

DEAD!
I read somewhere (I think it was the Daily News) that Abraham changed his number to 56 because it represents his birthday, May 6. I saw, I came, I left.

Cujo
I read somewhere (I think it was the Daily News) that Abraham changed his number to 56 because it represents his birthday, May 6. Correct. This from newyorkjets.com:Jets fans may have a hard time recognizing the three-time Pro Bowler this season. Abraham has changed his jersey number from 94 to 56, which represents his May 6th birthday and was previously worn by linebacker Dennis Haley, who will wear number 49 during Thursday night?s meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles. Or that he won't, and that someone else wanted his old number. He was sharing #51 with Matt McCoy. It caused havoc when they were both on the field as LBs at the same time.
