FiddySicks
I only have one thing to say about that.......WOOT!UNR 38 Fresno State 352006 WAC Co Champs!!!!! Biggest win in UNR History!!!!!Too bad for Fresno State Defensive end Garratt McIntyre, who grew up in South Lake Tahoe rooting for the Pack, but many of his and my friends are on the UNR team so it cant be all bad. FiddySicks
Now, the only thing left to do is to get the SportsCenter crew to pronounce Nevada correctly
sc49erfan15
Now, the only thing left to do is to get the SportsCenter crew to pronounce Nevada correctly I've always wondered what the "correct" pronunciation is for Nevada and Oregon, those seem to be the only two states with pronunciation issues...well, other than Florida (in the south, it's "FLAR-duh" or "FLAR-i-duh"...I've also heard "FLOOR-id-uh")

The SportsCenter announcers always say Nevada with a "Long" A, where the real pronunciation is Nevada with a "Short" A.In other words, its not "Ne Vah Duh" Its "Nev aaaaa duh" I hope that makes any sense at all to you

Neither of your examples has a long A sound. Unless you pronounce it nuh-VAY-duh.
Herk
i noticed that at least two players on Nevada had a silver stripe on their helmets. What is that about. Does that designate them as team captains?

sacker12
i noticed that at least two players on Nevada had a silver stripe on their helmets. What is that about. Does that designate them as team captains? It's called a Striker stripe. It's awarded by the position coaches to the players who have an extremely high grade three games in a row. pcgd
I can't say I've ever heard anyone mispronounce Nevada, but i hear Illinois with the S all the time. In southern Illinois we call it EL-i-noy and in chicago area they say IL-i-noy which is probably more correct.Anyway, the S is silent for all you that don't know. FiddySicks
are they still called nevada reno, i thought they dropped the reno part from their name a few years ago? For the most part it has been dropped from the name for national broadcasts because they want to be considered Nevada's team, and for the most part, they are (Screw UNLV),but around here its commonly Nevada Reno because everyone in this area still wants it to be Reno's team.
