brinkeguthrie
"The concept is not about going out there and putting on a show or going out there and scoring points. It's to win games," he said. "Whatever it takes. You have to gauge the flow of the game and then decide when to pick your spot to take over."I'd much rather go out and score 25 points and get 10 assists and see everybody in a rhythm, everybody in a groove."Is this #8 talking? Are we sure? The man who never met a jump shot he didn't like?Kobe: "Phil, you can just cut the other 12 guys, whoever they are. I'll just go one on five every night. Not a problem."Phil: "I came out of retirement for this?"http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2312674
BCBoy
When I first read this article I thought the same thing. And no, this isn't the real Kobe talking, this is just him trying to sound like he's the best team player in the league.

OnWis97
Boy, SOME PEOPLE will just always hate Kobe.I am one of those people. No matter what happens, I'll never forget how selfish he has been from being the 18-year old "I'll only play in a big market" jerk, to doing everything he could to be All-Star MVP in Philly, to the fued with Shaq, to throwing Shaq under the bus to the cops, to whatever happened in the Eagle CO hotel room, to now.I don't know if this is a "new" Kobe or just the same old selfish Kobe being smart enough to understand a bit of PR. Either way, I don't think I'll ever like him. See Red
Christ, people. Get over it. Is it so hard to believe that he actually cares more about winning than personal accomplishments? Who the hell is he supposed to pass to on that team? Lamar Odom? Please, I'd rather him jack up off-balance half court shots all game.
brinkeguthrie
there's no way. Kobe cares about Kobe first, team second. Sounds a bit like #80 if you ask me.If there's an NBA all-me team, he's on it. Even tho the Lakers are Kobe and four stiffs in sneakers, he wouldn't know a pass if it fell on his head. TFoA
there's no way. Kobe cares about Kobe first, team second. Sounds a bit like #80 if you ask me. #81*And yeah, that does sound kind of amazing that Kobe would rather have 10 assists, knowing good and damn well he ain't gonna pass the ball to anybody but himself. With that being said, I truly and sincerely believe that Kobe is doing the ballhogging for the better of the team. He's a team player, but he feels and knows he's the best, so he'd rather have the ball all the time, rather than do the MJ thing and let Pippen and Kerr hit the game winners once in a while

I was gonna say, this guy is tearing on Jerry Rice? A Niners fan, tearing on Jerry Rice? And to awnser ITE88's first question, Yes. Yes, it is so hard to believe that he actually cares more about winning than personal accomplishments... brinkeguthrie
oops! i said 80, didnt I. nope, Jerry was the consumate pro. Best WR ever, a dedicated teammate.Funny tho, I made a typo but everyone still knew I was referring to Me-O.If I was Jake Plummer, i'd start seeing a shrink now. See Red
If I was Jake Plummer, i'd start seeing a shrink now. Why? I've said this time and time again... what's the worst he can do to Plummer? Throw him under the bus? The whole city of Denver has already done that and Jake kept on keepin' on. Plummer just flatout doesn't care about how other people percieve him as a football player, or he does a great job of hiding it. He plays to win football games. brinkeguthrie
does Plummer (or any other Bronco) really want this cancer on their team? That's my point, and I doubt it.Team chemistry---------------out the door.

Completely kill what little is left of his career. Plummer doesnt hide it that he doesnt care what others feel about him and doesnt hide it? If you mean by him not caring, by tossing some of the most blatently terrible interceptions, and making some of the worst decisions ever by an NFL QB, then yeah, ill agree with that. Plummer plays to win? Tell me, what exactly has Plummer won? Have you accually watched this guy play? He NEVER looks like hes really trying that hard to win when it really counts IMO. Plummer has always been overrated. At ASU, with the Cardinals and now in Denver, Jake hasn't proven anything to me. Not even that amazing drive in the 97 Rose Bowl .. a game they still lost! Anyone with the least bit of talent can look like a stud on the Cardinals, and just like all those fans down in Arizona, Denver got suckered into thinking Jake was this phenom who would someday be the next Elway, and sure enough, he hasn't done jack since he arrived. The only thing that has gotten them as far as they've been is their coaching. Like it or not, Shannahan is the reason the Broncos win year in and year out, not Jake "Should Have Been A" Plummer.
