Cujo Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Fans at Mavericks game to get free plane ticketsAmerican Airlines took a page out of Oprah Winfrey's playbook Wednesday night, giving vouchers for free flights to everyone at the Dallas Mavericks' final game of the regular season. Fans jumped to their feet and cheered when Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and American executive Dan Garton announced the giveaway to an estimated 19,000 fans between the first and second quarters. Major props to Mark Cuban (IMO one of the best owner in all of sports) and American Airlines for putting such a promotion together. I can't think of a giveaway in sports quite like the one the Mavs pulled off last night. What a tremendous way to give back to the fans.
EatSleepJeep Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I was at Stars' Fan appreciation night on Saturday and they gave away a bunch of stuff, but not on that level.
ucnu112 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Wow, I heard Cuban on espnradio on Tuesday and he said to pay attention as he was going to do something never done before. That rates right up there!
WSU151 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 "There was a catch to the free flight vouchers: They're only good out of Love Field and flights from there go to only Austin, San Antonio, St. Louis and Kansas City"Great promotion, but the tickets aren't the most expensive. At first, when I read Curty's post, it was a voucher for anywhere in North America...which would either cost American Airlines or Cuban close to $20 million. But then I saw that catch, and realized the promotion will probably be a small fraction of that amount. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half. ย

I remember an interview with Cuban last year in which he talked about one of the first things he did when broadcast.com went public. He said that he called AA and bought elite status on AA that would give him a first class seat on any AA flight at any time. He then said that AA does not sell those passes any more. He wons a plane now, so I guess he really does not need that pass.
Mac the Knife Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Still though, its not a bad giveaway: someone who's never been to St. Louis or KC and just wants to hop a plane and go can do it, or to catch a Cardinals or Royals game... or maybe an old Dallas Texans fan who misses the team since it bolted for Kansas City 44 years ago...

Well, the Nets paid your toll if you went to their last home game... [Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008 Attention: In order to obtain maximum enjoyment from your stay at the CCSLC, the reader is advised that the above post may contain large amounts of sarcasm, dry humour, or statements which should not be taken in any true sort of seriousness.
