League Wars

If it were up to me, I'd make Interleague Play more fair. Every team in the NL would play every team in the AL in one 3-game series each season. Honestly, do we need 18 games to determine which team is the best in each division? Have two-home and two-away series against your division, one-home and one-away series against everyone else in your division, and half of the AL teams will come play at your stadium, and the other half of the AL host a series against you. Intraleague Play will still heavily out-number Interleague Play games.

Stupid idea. Divisional games sell more tickets and have more viewers/listeners. Why would the Brewers want to give up gate-bolstering visits from the Cubs and Cardinals and replace those dates with Rangers and Orioles games? Nobody cares about the Rangers and Orioles. Interleague doesn't need to be fair, nor a major portion of the season. It should just be a pleasant little diversion over a six-month season so that the crosstown teams can play for bragging rights and squeeze a few other series in there as well. Blaming a bad season on the tough interleague schedule should be about as good of an excuse as "we don't have a left-handed batting practice pitcher."

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

OK but look at it this way. While you say teams like the Brew Crew gain more from tix vs the Cards and Cubs, what about teams like the Blue Jays who play the Devil Rays as much as they do? Dont you think in cases such as that fans would rather see the Jays play the Cards or Giants more than the D Rays? Your only looking at one side of it.

Yes, but while we may host the D-Rays 9 games per season... we also host the Red Sox/Yankees 18 times a season.

Which is much more entertaining and builds a great rivalry

Yeah, Chris nailed it. If you're taking away divisional games, you're taking away ticket sales. The novelty of a series with the Cardinals once every four or six years or whatever will sell well, but once every two years, knowing that the Cardinals are Just Another Team you play each year either at home or away, makes it less important. Rivalries are big business in baseball. Yankees-Red Sox, Cubs-Cardinals, Dodgers-Giants...these matchups make money. Don't whittle them down to practically nothing so that the Cardinals can squeeze some Mariners games in the schedule every year.

I root for the AL because my team is from the AL... simple as that.

I'm not in that situation. I root for the Red Sox and the Giants.

Maybe 50,1% for the AL team and 49,9% for the NL team... ;)
