no97
Okay, I went to the White Sox/Astros game at "the Cell" this past Sunday, 6/25 (my first ever trip to the new Comiskey Park), and the give-away was listed as "Commemorative World Series White Sox Caps," to the first 20,000, Sponsored by Pepsi. Now, I understand that Pepsi has blue as their color, but the Sox are black, so why would the cap be Navy Blue? Even my sister made a comment about it! Here's a photo of the cap (it's pretty nice, I might add - manufactured by American Needle, and the logos (both the front logo, and the Pepsi logo) are embroidered on, not glued) next to my Team USA World Baseball Classic (clearly navy blue) New Era unstructured cap:Moose
SabreGuy
I think it's funny that a cubs fan (judging by your sig) would go to a Sox game to get the free cap. That being said, when I lived in Cleveland, I would go to cap day every time they had one, because that's the BEST giveaway, even if they are usually pretty nasty. That being said, that is a really nice cap (blue aside.) I couldn't imagine why they would pick blue, unless it was a nod to the sox OLD color scheme.(Or maybe they're just wrong about the color, like my wife who insists the Yankees are black and white, not blue and white.)And, so is the WBC one, actually. I thought about getting one, but I figured they were pretty identical to the Team USA baseball hat I got during the Sydney olympics (I'm pretty sure the logo was the same). But I like that the logo there is 3D, as opposed to the sydney olympics one I have, that has a flat logo on a new era low crown 5950. CubsFanBudMan
Well, I went to a Sox game on floppy hat day in 2001, but they were playing the Cubs. The hat was black. I kept it, because I agree hat day of any kind is the best day -- I used to always want to go when I was a kid, but they never seemed to fall on the weekends.Anyway, I was going to say I have no idea why the cap is blue -- and not even Pepsi blue, really -- but then it hit me. The Sox were supposed to be wearing navy and white Sunday uniforms this year, even though they only did it once so far. So maybe that's why. They figured it was Sunday, so they'd match the uni of the day. That reminds me, I was at Sox helmet day in 2001, too -- and the helmet they gave us was the 1917-inspired helmet they wore on Sundays that year. So the more I think about it, the more I think your cap was navy because it was Sunday. Now whether that makes any sense for a World Series cap... Max Power
I think it's funny that a cubs fan (judging by your sig) would go to a Sox game to get the free cap. I think it's even funnier that a Cubs fan would go to a Sox game to get a White Sox World Series Champions hat, but to each his own. I'll admit that I went to a Sox-Twins game in Minnesota in part because it was Johan Santana bobblehead night... and I display his bobblehead on a mantle near the tv where I cheer for the Sox to beat him (and everyone else)!! Don't know about the hat color, but it's dark enough that it doens't look bad at all.
MisterE
The colors for the 2005 World Series logo were navy, olive, and maroon, so I would assume the team wanted to match the hat to the WS05 logo rather than the Sox logo. Get Ron Santo in the Hall of Fame.
FiddySicks
Maybe they just found a better deal on a massive bulk amount of navy hats and figured, hey. Its a free giveaway, might as well make it as cheap as possible. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Okay, I'll address this issue off the bat... Yes, I'm a Cubs fan (obviously), and I was going to Chicago to visit my folks that weekend, as my sister was comming up from Nashville with her newborn daughter (4 months old). After realizing the Cubs were here in Minnesota, it occured to me that I hadn't been to the Cell yet in my quest to visit all 30 MLB ballparks (I've now visited 14 current and 3 former parks), and this was my best bet to go.I think it's even funnier that a Cubs fan would go to a Sox game to get a White Sox World Series Champions hat, but to each his own. I can't say I'll ever wear the cap again...As for the color, and it being "dark enough," it photographed a lot darker than it actually is, especially in sunlight. It looks like faded denim in the sun...And for what it's worth, I'm going back to Chicago in August for Cap Day at Wrigley.Moose
