Although I hate him with a passion, he's having a great season.
Viper
Shall we start a petition to do away with fan balloting for all sports? This is just plain ridiculous. You got my name.Any way for the dumping on the "Vote for Rory" campaign, from what I understood it was intended TO illustrate the flaws in fan voting and to get the NHL to do away with it.Hmm... does this mean the people behind this campaign will try it again next season? And will they get behind Fitzpatrick again, or find some other obscure player to build their write-in campaign around? As for the petition, I'd just as soon do away with All-Star games altogether (and not just in the NHL). Their original purpose of showcasing the league's stars for fans that don't get to see them often has long since been made superfluous by cable and satellite TV. Now they're just glorified pick-up games where the league's stars are risking injury and unavailability during the stretch run and playoffs for... what exactly? The winning conference doesn't get a reward, not even a silly contrived one like home-ice advantage in the Cup finals (a la the MLB All-Star Game). So, when the whole point of the game itself is questionable, it doesn't really matter to me who gets to choose the sides.
BCBoy
Luongo has really started to play good hockey lately, so he deserves it, although, about one month ago, I wouldn't have said the same...I'm expecting maybe one Canuck besides Bobby Lu in the ASG...ONE of the Sedin's...Daniel. The Nation
you know, i never understood why you the nhl, or a panel can't pick the rosters, and out of the 21 players selected, why then, the fans cant then vote for 6 starters.I mean we all have internets and stuff, we're capable human beings!! The people behind it have said it's a one year thing. Now a couple of jokers will try again next year, like happens every year, but it won't get near the size of the Rory Campaign. And considering the press the Rory campaign got this year I think the league has gotten the message about unlimited voting.
Fred T. Jane
THats also what I heard. I think fan voting must be stopped.Yeah, we don't want the fans to be an integral part of the half-week dedicated to showcasing the best the game has to offer to said fans or anything! [Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008 Attention: In order to obtain maximum enjoyment from your stay at the CCSLC, the reader is advised that the above post may contain large amounts of sarcasm, dry humour, or statements which should not be taken in any true sort of seriousness. ebod39
I agree about Hasek not being chosen. Hate or love 'em the guy is what, 41 or 42?, andleading the league in GAA. Sure he doesn't face 30+ shots every night but he's playingas solid as he ever has. Usually if a guy is that old the media has a heyday with it. for some reason he's fallen off the radar with all thee young guys like Miller and Luongo stepping up.I'm a Marty fan, but Hull said it best this afternoon on NBC, when he commented that Marty's shot per game average over his career is proabably less than 20 per game. It's hard to get excited about him.
