2008 MLB Season

I'm also surprised #17 is going to Griffey...#24 is Crede (come on, he couldn't get that from him), #30 is Nick Swisher (again, Griffey could have that if he really wanted it), and #3 is retired.

In our defense; Crede is a huge part of this organization. Granted, he sucks right now, and if he wasn't on the DL they would have probably tried to trade - he's still important to the team and fans. Crede's 24 looks very pretty when he's diving for those hard groundballs at 3B.

Swisher, not so much, but still. :D

Swish wore Canseco's old 33 in Oakland. He should probably just switch to that.

Boston and Pittsburgh both just got screwed.

Way to go Pittsburgh! <_< Way to do exactly what youve been doing for the past 15 :censored: ing years! Lets trade one of our best, even if they are actually pretty bad, for a bunch of prospects that will most likely turn out to be complete nobodies! Whats even better? They went to the RED SOX! The freaking RED SOX! And where did our last trade go? The YANKEES! We traded our best to two of the most elite teams in the league, and what do we get!? PROSPECTS! Freaking prospects! Weve been trying to use prospects for the past 15 years, in case you havent noticed, it hasnt worked.

Glad to see our "new" management is doin the job! <_<

I honestly think that this youth movement will actually go somewhere. Huntington has been under Mark Shapiro who did pretty well building up the Indians.

Theo is very irratic in the success of his moves, and to be honest, I think he gets extremely lucky most of the time. We'll have to wait till the end of the season to gauge this one. However, right now, it seems to be a tremendous loss for the Sox. It looks like they got rid of Manny just to get rid of him. You give up Manny, an underrated Moss, and Hansen a guy who will find his stuff someday, JUST for Jason Bay? Come on. There was absolutely no need for the Sox to wheel and deal prospects.

Boston and Pittsburgh both just got screwed.

Hey there buddy, how 'bout you back away from the ledge? What else did you think you would get? Pittsburgh was in no posistion to swap stars, what would that get them? Nothing. They'd be stuck right where they are. I hope you aren't having a hissy fit because you became delirious by the notion that the Bucs might actually finish above .500 this year, so if they did you still miss the playoffs and Bay gets a year older and less valuable. Brandon Moss has the ability to be a solid everyday outfielder who has proven he can hit in the clutch. Hansen is Rick Vaughn. Although I don't think a pair of glasses is gunna solve his problems. TREMENDOUS ceiling on both. Andy LaRoche is another intriguing prospect, he'd be starting in LA right now if they had the space. So all in all Moss/Hansen/LaRoche/Morris just for Jason Bay? That's a Pirates victory right there.

I hope your right, but seeing NO improvement in 15 years, it's hard to buy "we got 11 of their best prospects and it'll be a great future" argument anymore.

Javy "Silent Assassin" Vazquez has the #33 jersey, previously worn by Sox legend Aaron Rowand.

Yet, Jose Canseco had to wear #31 when he was a Pale Hoser. Pssh!

Hmm, so can anyone explain why the Dodgers now carry FIVE starting outfielders?

Matt Kemp, Juan Pierre, Andruw Jones, Andre Ethier, and now Manny Ramirez.

Well Andruw has been sort of a bust so I wouldn't include him as one of the five. Maybe just an overpriced backup.

Prospects? I understand I said I'd rather have Moss than not, but he and Hansen are not the main reason this isn't good. You are correct, Hansen will find his stuff someday... but not in Boston. Moss is going to be blocked wherever he is, face it, he is not a long-term starter here. Under any circumstances. We already have 4 OF's in the minors who would leapfrog him with no trouble. I'd rather keep Moss and Hansen, yes.. so we can trade them for bullpen help. If Manny is really that much of a distraction and Theo had to trade him that badly, there is just no way in hell he can let Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen stop that. We should feel lucky he got away without giving up an elite prospect. I'm going to try and assume that's the situation so I don't kill myself and therefore we have more of an excuse to overpay.

I feel awkward now.. the way some people at SoSH are putting it I'm really kind of coming around on this deal... however I just don't see how we can win this season with Jason Bay and not Manny Ramirez. Next year, though, I really like this.

That may be so, but this is all they have done for the past 15 years and it has NEVER worked out. Therefore, I and most of Pittsburgh are more than sick of seeing it, and do not see any reason to believe this will work out for us. As far as im concerned what their potential is said to be means nothing. IF/when they prove me wrong, Ill joyfully eat crow, but until then...

As far as backing away from the ledge, despite not seeing a winning season from the bucs in my life, im not at the ledge yet, even though the rest of the city jumped over it a long time ago.

Bolded parts parts = Garbage the A's wouldn't even want to trade their star players for.

I suppose I'll bite.

Nationals record against the Mets: 4-6

Nationals record against the Phillies: 3-5

So for those of you keeping track at home, a Nationals win tonight would give them a better winning percentage against the Phillies than the Mets. Of course, if the Phillies win, the gig is up and the Nationals are clearly guilty of collusion of the worst kind and should expelled from Major League Baseball for life. Furthermore, to show the deplorability of such actions, everyone who is currently banned from baseball should be reinstated to ensure that the Nationals' crime against baseball is placed on a level far higher than any other committed against the game.

Meanwhile...

Braves record against the Mets: 7-2

Braves record against the Phillies: 2-10

The Braves played the Mets last in mid May when the Mets were going real bad and the Braves were still doing good. They still had Smoltz they still had Glavine and Chipper was batting .400. Im willing to bet good money the Braves will not do as well against the Mets in the second half.

As for the Nats Im still ticked at the last two weeks from last year they went 1-6 against the Phillies and 5-1 against the Mets and played every game against the Mets like it was Game 7, using the 40-man roster to use 10 pitchers to go lefty righty starting in the 6th inning some games.

Well, yeah. Juan Pierre and Andruw Jones aren't minor league prospects.

I think its time to fold the Pirates, and give the fans in Pittsburgh an expansion team. What an awful awful deal they got nothing for Bay, Nothing for Nady and Marte, and they have no scouting department cant seem to develop any one in the minors, yet they have a beautiful stadium that they use to rake their fans over the coals on a yearly basis.

Brilliant Tank! Pure brilliance! Bud Selig can't hold a candle to you. They should fold the Mets, their seasons over anyway.. they lost yesterday.

I am not talking literally I am talking figuratively.

So when you said the Mets were finished and that you were done being a fan, you were talking in the figurative sense?

And the other team in Los Angeles has 4 could-be starting outfielders: Vlad Guerrero, Torii Hunter, Garrett Anderson, Gary Mathews Jr....the city could have a whole lineup of OF's (one being the DH) if the two teams merged. Juan Pierre would have to play at 2nd base because his arm sucks....

The Braves played the Mets last in mid May when the Mets were going real bad and the Braves were still doing good. They still had Smoltz they still had Glavine and Chipper was batting .400. Im willing to bet good money the Braves will not do as well against the Mets in the second half.

Quit acting like a :censored: -ing little girl, Tnak.

Why were the Nationals playing their asses off in September? Their young guys were playing for this season's jobs. The teams that are most dangerous to play in the late stretch of the pennant race are these teams that are well out of contention and are playing their young players to see if they can cut it at the major league level. If your high-and-mighty Mets can't beat a non-contending team, do they deserve to make the playoffs? If I remember corrctly, the Nationals played .500-ball for the second half of the year. Seems to me they were bringing their game nightly, regardless of the opponent...not that this :censored:MOD EDIT: There was no need for that comment in this thread. Please, stick to the topic at hand.

As a side note, I think it's great that Pittburgh got to unite the LaRoche brothers, Adam and Andy.
