Nabokov for Vezina

Bruce Boudreau for Jack Adams

I would give Boudreau a very close second place vote

The only thing working against Boudreau here is that he didn't coach the whole year, although he literally turned that team around. i'd love to see him win it, being a former Hershey Bears season ticket holder.

Some thoughts/ideas:

- Jack Adams - Ron Wilson (SJ) perhaps....Mike Babcock should get a few votes

- Calder - Mike Green (WAS) should get a look

- Vezina - It should go to Nabokov, since I'm assuming Osgood doesn't have enough starts to actually win it

- Selke - I'm not saying he'll win it, but word is Zetterberg's gonna get some votes here

I thought he led rookie defenseman scoring...

he played 22 games as a Cap in 05-06, 70 last year, 82 this year. he led all defensemen in goals this year with 18 goals and had 56 pts. too bad his official rookie year as last year, under Hanlon, he always produces under Boudreau cause Boudreau lets him play his game. i expect him to be a big time performer this year.

it would be hard to make a case against Boudreau, but Carbonneau is a good choice too, i dont have a problem with Guy getting it if its not Boudreau.

What? For a team that was 6-14-1 before his arrival and on pace for the #1 pick to direct the Caps to a (lucky 7s) finish: 37-17-7. WOW, just wow.

But that's the problem. He didn't coach them for the first quarter of the season. That's too much for me. Sure, what he did was great. He was at the helm for the team's big turn around. But sometimes a big shake-up like that works regardless of who the new guy is. I gotta go with Carbonneau, too.

I'm not sure DC was an incident where you could have thrown just anyone in at the coaching job and have had an impact that Boudreau has had in his first year. One can make a case for several coaches but am sticking with my original choice.

As a hockey fan for the last 25 years (roughly 20 of them I was actually aware that I was a fan), I can't remember a time when we had so much young talent coming into the league at once. The influx of players who are already top guys and the guys like Backstron, Kane and Toews who have shown exciting potential is astounding.

absolutely. the kids that are coming in are more nhl ready than ever. its alot of fun to watch and its the type of thing that can create dynasties in spite of the salary cap. with as young and as good as these guys are that come in, teams can keep them for a while and it really could create some long runs in titles if a good supporting cast surrounds these guys.

coach of the year has to be joel quennville. you may think that he shouldn't get any recognition because of the superstars that he had, but keep in mind that for at least 14-15 games the avalanche were without the services of joe sakic, ryan smyth, paul stasny, and marek svatos all at the same time. plus the avs were without the services of jordan leopold (again) and despite missing all of those man games to injury, the avs were 3 points from the division title at the end of the year.

i think coach of the year is more about what you don't have rather than what you have. if the avs put up more than 105 points (something i think could have happened if all of the 's' players were healthy in the lineup) i don't give him the nod, and ironically enough, if the avs finished with 95 points with the team relatively healthy, i think his job would be on the line. for those who aren't aware, this is quennville's contract year.
