Reno's PCL team is named Aces

...with a slightly better-rendered A it could have been mind-blowingly awesome.

BallWonk, please elaborate. "Mind-blowingly awesome"?

I completely agree that the A is inconsistent with the rest of the "Aces" script, but even with a better A, one would only have a script that at best might be referred to as "nice" -- nothing objectionable at all, completely appropriate for a baseball jersey, but it's something we have seen countless times before. Having seen it before does not make it bad, but I have to say that it would still be far from "mind-blowingly awesome."

No, not really. But at least had they named the team the Aces and made it a plane theme it would've at least been tolerable. But to toss in a spade is just a cop out. Reno has so much to offer other than gambling. It's not my favorite city in the world, but it's the closest city to my home town, and to come up with a theme that can lead to players getting banned from the game your unis represent (In some cases) is just bad. Hell, even Vegas didn't go there.

To tell you the truth I can't really remember any teams (other than the city's Ausie Rules and Rugby squads) that have gone with a gambling reference as their moniker, it has been more regional and western themed (i.e. Wranglers, Banidts, Cowboys, Outlaws, Posse, Rattlers). It was great that the NBDL team went nostalgic with the Bighorns, too bad the PCL team didn't do the same by using the Silver Sox moniker. I agree with you that if they used an aviation theme (a la Reno Air Races) then it could've been exponentially better

The last time Reno had a "Pro" baseball team they were the BlackJacks, and they ended up being a complete failure.

Anyone have a larger version of that? I'd like to take a closer look at it - never seen it before.

I am NOT onboard with team's gambling reference. Bad call, Reno.

Just to put it out there, you can play cards without gambling. Many people do.

You do know Reno is littered with casinos, right?

Wow? Really? I'm amazed by that.

Now, can you show me where the Krunk Wolverines are in Atlanta, please.

I remember that they were in the WBL with Zion it was cool going to St. George for Indy league games.

As for that team: the Chukras name was better, but the Blackjacks logo was alot better than the Chukras, I really don't think it looked anything like a bird. If i knew the password for my photobucket account I would post the Reno Chukras logo.

On another note I hope the 51s' and Aces' owners can come up with a deal to make a trophy series or something huge between the two teams as this is the first time since I think the 50s that Las Vegas and Reno have had a baseball team in the same league together. I also think the LV-Reno rivalry will be more intense with the fans than one with Sacramento or Fresno because although those two cities are closer than Las Vegas, Las Vegans and Renoites(?) just plain don't like each other, it's plain old fashioned hate.

The old Reno Chukars. I remember that league well, and how the Chico Heat ALWAYS dominated.

And I agree, a Fremont Cannon type of a series would be GREAT, cause as you said Northern Nevadans and Southern Nevadans absolutely HATE each other.

And speaking of the Fremont Cannon,

So where exactly does Nevada's DMZ between Reno and Las Vegas lie?

In essence, where is Nevada's San Louis Obispo? :P

Heh, cosidering the population of the state, I'd say the whole damn thing between Minden and Red Rock really. Nothing more in Nevada that makes up the whole rivalry other than the two cities. If you wanna get technical I guess you could say Tonopah is the mid way, but to be perfectly honest with you, the rest of the state is pretty much drive through territory.

I couldn't say it better myself, the drive between las vegas and reno is horrible nothing but desert and a few outposts, it's also very dangerous since all you're looking it is desert and pavement, it all starts to blend together after a while...

On the Fremont Cannon game, I was siked, when I went to work the Rebs were up 17-7, when I got home they had lost...I believe it's just that the Rebs can't beat Chris Ault, he's always had UNLV's number and I hate to say that...but at least UNLV beats UNR at EVERYTHING else :P
