NHL- Hamilton Alloy Cats

Alright, so I figured I would toss my hat into the ring with all the other Hamilton NHL concepts.

My apologies for the half-arsed logo, it's more of a placeholder than anything else, because my logo-making skills aren't up to snuff. It is intended to represent the origincal Hamilton Tigers franchise (with the stylized H) and the City of Hamilton's flag with the circle of chain links. I'm sure someone could do a more suitable primary logo (PM me if you'd like to give it a go), with this logo becoming the shoulder patch.

Anyways, I named the team the Alloy Cats. It's a play on words that throws back to the Tigers days and is an homage to the steel industry without just calling the team the 'Steel-whatevers'. The mascot (and eventually the main logo) will be a tiger. The colours I used are black, white and a reddish/brownish/orangish colour that is reminiscent of the Stelco Tower in Hamilton, which was built using a special alloy called Stelcoloy that actually rusts on purpose.

The sleeve striping on all three jerseys includes a ring of chain. In each loop, there are six large and six small loops, just like in the city flag. Aside from that, the striping on the home and away jerseys is pretty conservative.

The alternate jersey is a different story- the chain from the sleeves also appear across the chest, and the jersey itself does not have a chest logo. I felt that a logo on the front of the alt jersey would just clutter things up, and that having a logo-less jersey would either be incredibly iconic, or remind everyone of the 1980's Vancouver Canucks. I was hoping for the former.

C&C please!

p.s. Thank you to whoever made the template, I'm not sure who it was anymore as it's been sitting on my computer a while, and thank you to Roger Clemente for the numbers and lettering.

I'm not sure where the cats part comes in, but I like the logo and home/road uniform designs, though I'm not a big fan of the logo-less alt jersey.

Having the number font echo the Hamilton H is a nice touch.

I also like the colors, but is it wise for a team named after the steel industry to be wearing rust-colored uniforms? It seems like they might send the wrong message.

I did try to emulate the H when I was looking for a number font. Might be a bit of a slap in the face, though, to steal Buffalo's fans and their number font haha

As far as the rust colour goes, I felt safe using it because of the Stelco Tower. If it wasn't for that, I'd have definitely stuck with a more steel-like colour. I'll just quote the Wiki page for it so it makes sense to everyone: "The tower was built as the head office of Stelco, Canada's largest steel producer and one of Hamilton's largest employers. The company used the tower to demonstrate the versatility of steel and to showcase its newest development, "Stelcoloy" ? a specialised steel alloy designed to slowly rust over time. The rust helps protect the steel from further damage. This process of oxidation accounts for the steel's unique self-colouring nature; the steel was grey-blue when the building was first erected."

Basically, you can either look at the colour as being rusty, or well-aged. :P

The name, I'm not a fan of...

The primary logo, is OK...

I LOVE the colour idea... THe "RUST" orange colour is unique to the NHL, it is a nod to Hamilton's steel industry. If you have ever seen raw steel it starts to rust almost imediately and shows this colour. But MORE importantly, I think this colour is a more realistic representation of a tiger than say for example, the Bruins gold, or the Flyers orange.

Good job!!!

If Hamilton gets a team, I propose the name Hamilton Pizza Cats. The insane following you would get from asians and the marketing would be well worth the fruity colours.

LETS GO PENGUINS!

I think a black alternate helmet would be better, just for aesthetic reasons. Look at the Phoenix Coyotes alternate jersey with the burgundy helmet and black jersey. Wouldn't that look better with a black helmet?

I'd suggest a black helmet with the home jersey as well, it just fits better in my opinion.

The team name is subpar at best, although it is a sort of play on words of "alley cat". The logo is severely lacking professionalism in my opinion, the H looks outdated, and the circle around it seems to serve very little purpose other than housing the chain. The alternate uni is too gimmicky for the NHL, better suited for the ECHL or lower. I do like the colors and the number font though.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice concept, it just needs some work to bring it up to an NHL level.

Black helmet- check. That's easy enough.

I think I'm going to revert the name to Tigers, but the colours and striping shall remain.

I've modified the main logo so that the circles aren't there anymore- it'll just be the chain around the H. That logo will be going on the shoulders, though. Is anyone talented enough to whip up a pissed-off looking tiger for a new main logo? I've tried several different approaches to making my own, but they all came out looking like a 9-year-old drew them. And not a talented 9-year-old, either.

I'm going to try using the original 'H-Tigers' logo on the chest of the alternate.

The update should be up sometime tonight or early tomorrow.

p.s. Vcx, Hamilton doesn't really have a whole lot of Asians. Perhaps the 'Pizza Cats' would be a better name for the Canuckleheads.

I would definitely take out the circle. I'd have the "H" overlapping the chains because there is currently too much empasize on the chain and not enough on the "H". Also, just an idea, but maybe try to do stripes on the H, to make the logo more "Cat" and less "Alloy"
