You just had to tempt the "hockey gods" with that Hotel Lolifornia line, didn't you?

Washington lost? Am I shocked? Nope. I always knew they were over-rated. They don't have a starting goaltender, nor do they have a shut down defenseman. They made 4 trades on the trade deadline day, which told me they knew they had holes. They did pick up two defensemen, but Joe Corvo and Milan Jurcina are not shut down defensemen and to top it off, they didn't do anything to improve the weakest part of their team, in goal. Until Washington realizes you win in the playoffs with goaltending and defense, then expect this every year. They need a top notch goaltender and a couple tough defensemen and a complete shut down defenseman. They are a very weak team. They remind me of the Houston Oilers and Detroit Lions who ran the run and shoot. You can score all you want in the regular season, but when the games become tough and you have to play defense, well teams like the Caps go out in the first round year in and year out.

There are many reasons to point at why the Caps lost this series: goaltending is not one of them. Washington simply refused to play playoff hockey, period. They were too cute, refused to crash the net, just didnt do the things that you have to do to win in the playoffs, plain and simple. They didnt adjust to the gameplan Montreal threw out there against them, the biggest reason they lost is that Boudreau got out-coached. Varlamov played well when he had to, and youre correct about the holes in the defense. Mike Green isnt a number one defenseman, at least, not yet, he is only 24 years old playing way too many minutes, again, the coaching is at fault. John Carlson and Karl Alzner played extremely well for a rookie pairing, I thought. But the series ultimately came down to coaching, and Martin out-coached Boudreau.

3-0 lead shrinks to 3-2 before the start of the third. Yeah, I've seen this before. Like every other time we've lost to the Red Wings.

I'm a little late to the party, still in mourning. I didnt think we would win the Cup, but I didnt expect us to lose to Montreal. But I wish them luck the rest of the way, considering theyre playing my most hated of rivals next round.

Oh, dont you worry, we'll take care of Montreal for you.
