New_Member Posted April 22, 2012 Share Posted April 22, 2012 Not exactly a city nickname, but a phoenix is in the seal of Atlanta, a reference to the city's rebirth after its Civil War burning. A team obviously cannot be named the Phoenix given the existence of a city by that name. However, if the NHL ever decides to give Atlanta a third try to keep a team, I think the Firebirds would be a great name. Atlanta Flames + Atlanta Thrashers = Atlanta Firebirds. Phoenix = Firebird.
