I can't believe a Pro team from Pennsylvania hasn't called itself the Keystones (after The Keystone State). Great name which could lead to a simple, iconic logo.

The American Soccer League's Pennsylvania Stoners came pretty darn close.

Currently, an amateur side in the National Premier Soccer League continues the tradition.

Hahahaha... Stoners.

North Dakota is, at times, called the Sioux State. No, not the Fighting Sioux State, except maybe in Grand Forks.

This state was also called the Flickertail State a long time ago, and the UND teams in the old days were referred to as the Flickertails.

-Pittsburgh sports teams wear black and gold, which are the colors of the city flag.

-Philadelphia Union jersey resembles the city's flag, only with a darker blue.

-Birmingham Vulcans of the WFL (as well as the Alabama Vulcans of the AFA) were named for Birmingham's statue of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire.

Yes, I root for teams all over the place. And I apparently favor birds.

Portland Trail Blazers (Oregon Trail...self explanatory)

Oregon St. Beavers (On the back side of state flag there is a beaver)

Well that and we are technically the beaver state

I think it should be the Duck state since we keep beating them in the Civil War

Illinois-The Prairie State

The closest any team gets to using the name is the Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars, probably the second closest is the old Bloomington Prairie Thunder. Of course there's always usage of the cardinal, the state bird used for Illinois State's Redbird (named as such because they didn't want to be confused to the team from St. Louis... just go with it)

I wanted to make a joke like that but didn't want to derail the thread with an argument...however I just remembered there are no Beavs on this board, one of the many reasons I love this place lol

  • Dolphins are not fish
  • Most sports teams are named after animals
  • Navy is a pretty generic colour
