Revis to Bucs for several draft picks is a done deal, according to my ESPN app. Revis and the Bucs have also agreed to contract extension parameters.

...that Revis will want to renegotiate as soon as he breaks up a pass in the first preseason game. I have a bad feeling for the Bucs on this.

I wouldn't say its done yet.

That deal is pending on a physical which may or may not be a problem.

If it goes through the Jets might as well just fire Rex Ryan right now, because this team isn't winning more then six games this year minus Revis and the only way he stays on as coach is if they make the playoffs. Not really sure why they didn't can him when they canned Tannenbaum, but its then again its the Jets.

Don't do it, Bucs. Gonna bring that 40k to 20k in that stadium. If this happens, this will go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history. You don't do what the Bucs are doing in the NFL. If you think you are a piece away from a ring, you are WRONG!

They're certainly not a piece away from a ring right now, but I have no idea what you support is for your first two statements. I'm not even sure what you're talking about with the "40k to 20k."

Explain your position. I'm interested.

It's a shot at TB's low attendance numbers as compared to JAX.

I caught that it was a shot at Tampa Bay's attendance. I'm just wondering how one deal could make a team so unpopular that they average 1/3 of the attendance of the worst-drawing NFL team. Essentially, how, in his estimation, the Revis to Buccaneers trade will destroy the popularity of the team so badly that it bursts the NFL's popularity bubble.

Even if that was all hyperbole, which is fine, I'd like to know what makes it a horrible trade. Seriously. No sarcasm, no attack. I really want to know what the crack in this trade is, from his perspective.

You don't trade youth for age. Not for a DB. Maybe a QB if he is Manning, but not a DB.

You are taking it too literal. Just a colorful way of saying you will suck.

Revis is still just 27, which is the age in which you need to have your players playing their best*. Plus TB at least has to try and that a shot otherwise they will be stuck as the 3rd place team in the NFC South with even less of a playoff shot as opposedto competing with ATL and NO. You can win a Super Bowl at 10-6; you just have to have tie breakers to get into the tournament.

The extension also helps ensure they are above the cash spending average regardless what they do with Josh Freeman.

Well, I won't suck. The team I am a fan of might.

And, of course, a lot of how well or poorly this trade will affect the Buccaneers is barely up for speculation at this point, as about 5 people in the world know what the proposed deal entails. It's possible that the Bucs are going all out and trading an enormous number of draft picks and/or younger players for Revis. Unlikely, given their recent history, but possible. It's also possible that Revis will never fully come back from his injury or will have become fragile as a result of it. Those would be reasons for the trade to be a poor one. Of course, given that the Jets have made no bones about wanting rid of Revis and this is their last real chance to get anything worthwhile out of him, the Bucs are in the driver's seat a bit on this trade. I don't expect them to give the whole world to the Jets.

On the other hand, I do expect them to overpay Revis himself a good bit. We'll see how much.

What's so bad about this trade? Tampa traded a mid first round draft pick for their biggest need. And it's not like they dealt that pick for just any old CB, they traded for the best CB in the league (when healthy). Tampa had the WORST secondary in the league last season, and their only CB of note is about 75 years old. There is nobody available in the draft who would have come even close to filling that hole the way Revis does. And even the money doesn't bother me. They're constantly so far under the cap it's mind numbing. It's nice to see them make a splash for a change.

Personally, I'm impressed with what Tampa has done so far under Greg Schiano. They were fairly competitive last season, and have done all they can to fix their weaknesses in the off season by shifting a defense that was one of the worst I've ever seen to very capable. What more do you want?

Frankly, I'm more excited about this upcoming season for Tampa than I have been in years. And even if this blows up in their face, who cares? At least they're trying to win, which is more than can be usually said.

Plus, I have good memories of trading for Jets star players...

This is my position as well. Even if this trade explodes in their faces, they can at least recover to mediocrity. And the cap and trade thing: This is a good sign, even if it doesn't work out. They're showing willingness to do things like this two years in a row.

And even if Revis is never Revis again and they're trading a pick that could be used on "the next Revis," we won't know that for sure for at least a few years, and this is the safer side of the gamble.

But again, as I said above, a lot of the reasons this could be good or bad by way of paper are still unknown by almost everyone. They could be trading the majority of their 2013 draft or be giving up two first round picks or something, which would really put the pressure one. However, if Revis turns out to still be Revis, and the Bucs get 4 or 5 years of that? Even two first rounders would be worth it.

My problem with Revis is that he's a circus sideshow. Constant contract whining and renegotiation and narcissim (Revis Island? Yeah, Drew Brees will be coming to visit...) and all that. Who wants that in their locker room? And where it will really burn them is if he's not as good as expected. Then you have nothing but the baggage.

I think its an ultimatum move for the Bucs more then anything else. This is a Bucs team that finished 7-9 last year with THE worst secondary in the NFL. If they were even fair at stopping the pass last year, they would have been a 10-6 or 11-5 playoff team. They lost five games by a touchdown or less in which they gave up over 300 passing yards.

Look at the roster right now and what do see? They got a franchise QB coming into his fifth year, a pro bowl running back, a pro bowl wide out, a solid offensive line and a solid run D. What are they waiting for to happen at this point? Are they waiting for a franchise player to just drop in their lap in the mid first round or later? Name a team in the NFL that isn't trying to get that.

The way I see it you add Darelle Revis, now the team has no excuses not to win. If they don't win with them, then you know this team was probably never going to win regardless of what the Bucs did. Hell Dan Marino is still waiting for Miami to develop a running game for him. Maybe if they had gone out and made a move to bring in a Ricky Watters, or a Jerome Bettis or a Marcus Allen, maybe they would have made another Super Bowl. Sometimes your better off taking the sure thing over sitting back and waiting for draft picks to come in that may never arrive.

It may not work out, but I haven't seen the team yet that won without taking a gamble.

So? What does Tampa normally have? They're a team that is usually the hardest for most people to remember when naming all of the NFL teams. A little bit of a media circus is actually kind of needed IMO. And it's not like they traded for Tim Tebow. They just traded for the best CB in the league.

Bucs are making a big mistake. They could have signed Antoine Winfield for cheaper ages ago (whom PFF ranked as the best corner in football last year). Instead they've traded way too many picks for an expensive diva who doesn't grasp the meaning of a contract and I still don't see them as a playoff team.
