Steve-O
Other than the companies on this board (Nitroseed Advancements, Atomic Duck, Syphi, and all others). What design company do you think is the very best for sports logo design???? I know there is Phoenix, and Todd McFarlane (yick) and others but I am wondering who you think is the absolute best for sports logo design. Post a link to their site so we can check it out! GMac
Id have to go with Joe Bosack... pretty much does no wrong in my books...Flynnagain's got a buzz lately seems everyone and their sister is using him right now... though to be blunt... i think he half asses some of his his wordmarks and most of his logos look the same... but thats just my opinion...BAT creative... I like their stuff i really do... thats all i have to sayPhoenix... speaking of everything looking the same, they are the only company i know that should sure them selves for trademark infringement... my god...edit... i forgot about simon... good call nitro GDB... nitroseed
Honestly, I'd venture to say either Studio Simon or SME Branding. Those would be my two picks. They've both done very high-profile and superior quality work. And one day, I hope that Nitroseed Advancements will be up there with the likes of them. Avenger
To add to the others already mentioned, I really like Osaki. Most notably, they did the TB Bucs, the Niners, the Dolphins, SDSU Aztecs, and the Hawaii U Warriors.Adrenalin's done some alright stuff, but they've also done some pretty bad stuff IMO. I've got a portfolio review with their creative director next week, so that'll be interesting. At the end of the day, though, I like Bosack's stuff the best. He consistantly pumps out a really good product.
shiznit1083
My favorite is defnitley bosack. I love his bold and crisp designs.Another of my favs is Todd Radom. I know we lambasted his work of the XXXVIII logo, but he was the genius behind the best identity package in pro sports (Anaheim Angels), IMO. Todd has become a friend of mine (through telephone and email mind you)...a great guy and a great designer...you should all know that he lurks a bit on this board, and even posts now and then......he'll tell you that the Super Bowl logo in question was the product of tight creative control that he had to give up. So I've heard. I won't hold it against him. Besides, I've sort of warmed up to that logo.
Avenger
I just checked out Todd's website, and I have to say, for the most part, I'm a fan of his work. I like the Angels logo set a lot, as well as the World Series Centennial, the Fenway logo, and the Cyclones logo.I've never heard of him, though I've enjoyed his work for many years. Discrim
all i know is Phoenix did a few good logos (Grizzlies, Sonics most notably IMO) in the mid 90s, but mostly they've turned out crap. Bosack's logos are usually excellent, and he doesn't turn out the same thing twice usually. this Flynnagain, i see the again is there for a reason: same stuff, different client. more or less the new Phoenix. A strong mind gets high off success, a weak mind gets high off bull
Phil
I really like the work Bosack has done, as well as SME. Osaki's portfolio sounds rather impressive as well, and I just checked out Todd Radom's site, and he's got some sweet stuff on there too.Of course, any design company that would give me a job would immediately jump to the top of the list. rtrich11
I think we've added up a pretty good list of design companies. I too like Bosack, Flynnagain (though wish he'd mix up styles now and then), Studio Simon, and MANY others. Some not listed were Silverman out of Connecticut, and Rare Design (even if I'm not nuts about the Southern Miss stuff). There are several professionals on this board that I love their work, even if it's just concept. I won't list them so they don't get big egos (tee hee), except for Tom Richards...Ouch! (Hit by beer cans and spitwads)The sports logo work seems hard to come by unless you are a specialist or lucky. I wish many of the design shops we've listed had the opportunity to do more. For example, Rickabaugh is good in my opinion, but I haven't seen anything new in a while. I'd look forward to his next piece. cafepress.com/artbyrichards
pcgd
I've got to go with Simon. Seeing that site made me realize that I could make a living doing sports logos. I always knew that I wanted to be a graphic designer, but that made me realize what my goal is to be one day and that's to intertwine my 2 favorite things on earth, sports and design. (and women...and food...fine and beer...5 things!)peace,pc

rozilla74
All wonderful choices in my opinion. The top names will always get repeat business as you've noticed. One of my best friends, whom I attended college with, is currently designing for Nike and has worked for MLB and the NHL. Even with that insider knowledge we haven't been able to crack into the bigs. We landed that St. Francis College identity through a friend of his. He says it all comes down to who you know. (Perfect example is the new Syracuse monstrosity ) I've emailed with Studio Simon a few times and he also reiterated that it's a tough niche to get into. Lots of talent on these boards that could make the leap though.
