Well, it would be nice to have a source on your claims and confidence that this kind of growth is sustainable.- 3,894 replies

2023 NFL Regular Season Through Super Bowl LVIII

How to describe being a Broncos fan through the first three weeks: Somehow, it was possible for Russ to go lower than being mocked by a cartoon starfish. -

I can’t explain why, but I used to get him and Jake Plummer confused. I guess Broncos quarterbacks from the interregnum between Elway and Manning just meld together for me. -
It turns out that having contrast between the blue and green shades is a good thing!

MLB Stadium Saga: Oakland/Tampa Bay/Southside

Ok, so I was wrong. That doesn’t mean that expansion is a viable option, nor does it mean that Portland’s MLB stadium efforts are actually drumming up any serious local support. As Fiddy said, we don’t have enough viable baseball markets. Hell, of the ones we do have, several are utterly awful.- 3,894 replies

Chicago deserves the QB jersey meme more than the modern Cleveland Browns. -

Portland chose their MLS club over AAA baseball. That alone should tell MLB expansion folk to back off and leave the city alone.- 3,894 replies

That's exactly what it is, not fixing the root of their issues and just moving the low attendance to a new building. I'd think it was a good idea if public transit in the area expanded to service the new stadium and provide an alternative to over-congested highways. But this is the Tampa Bay Area we're talking about, so that won't happen.- 3,894 replies

As a Niners fan, I'd like to do the same for my team. The semi-home opener was a pretty decent win for the Niners. The Rams certainly have more spunk to them than the Steelers, but I'd wait on calling the Niners a legitimate contender. Purdy is gonna have some regression to the mean (as we kind of saw yesterday) and the injury bug will return, it's just a matter of when. -
It’s the mix of slab-serifs and sans-serif numbers that really make the font seem “confused,” for lack of a better word. The NOB font is full of slabs, but the numbers largely avoid them.
-
If you're gonna do faux-leather, just ditch the stripes and brightly-colored facemask. Black or leather-colored facemasks would work best with faux-leather. Using a darker-colored leather texture on the helmet graphic would've been better, possibly one with fake stitching in certain sections.

I’m just rooting for AFC East chaos, especially if the Pats end up on top again. -

Well, that shot from The General is now a live look at the Bills. I guess it helps that they built up the team beyond Aaron Rodgers? -

So, are the Niners that good or are the Steelers finally godawful? I’m good with the former and very pleased with the latter. -

Philadelphia was probably the worst place for Ben Simmons to go. He probably was going to get the yips anyway, but Philly magnified it a little. -

They were terrible - black felt awkwardly shoehorned into the set, especially once they added black breezers. It didn't even fix the issue of yellow touching white, like the Flames did when they added initially black. It also was a rethink of the team's identity, as opposed to the gradual shift of the North Stars. It wasn't a particularly good rethink, but it was understandable. The North Stars just slapped black onto a mediocre template. Replace the silver with yellow on the Dallas Stars, and you'd have something worthwhile.
-
They're in a similar boat to the Mariners - their identity is very much "of its time," but they got a lot right within the trends of the time. Some designs can be frozen in Y2K and that's ok, as long as the uniform and font front follows through. Really, the Wild got it right the first time. Very much of its time, but still classy - even the display font (grunge-ified Futura, IIRC) was tasteful enough.
-
The thing is, I get why people might find the Wild's main identity "tired" now. Dark green and red can read as a bit dreary-looking, especially when the home and road jersey don't take full advantage of the color scheme. The bright green and yellow look comparatively more inviting - "happy colors," if you will. North Stars nostalgia too plays a role, but much of the appeal is the aesthetic appeal of "happy colors." Adding black to the scheme would just mess it up into an over-detailed mess, as it did for the North Stars.
-
It's the inevitable "North Stars in all but name" rebrand that was destined to happen the minute the team entertained the idea. This happens almost every time a team has a popular throwback/throwback-adjacent alternate - it overtakes the often-staid "modern" design. Is the current hunter green/red/wheat all that stale?
