    Yes! Much better.

    Good to hear!

Up next are the Anaheim Angels:

    ANGELS ROAD ALT:

    Angels-Road-Alt.png

    Notes:

    - OK, so this one diverts from the premise of the series a bit, but I wanted an excuse to try my hand at "fixing" the Disney-era Angels, and the team's 1997 rebrand was so dramatic that it may as well have been for an expansion team.

    - Like many uniforms from this period, the Angels' look had plenty of worthwhile ingredients but was ultimately less than the sum of its parts. I've always loved the winged "A" logo, as well as that vibrant shade of red and periwinkle, but the pinstripes, vests and use of metallic gold terribly dates those designs. (I've often said the Angels' road set from this era might be the single most '90s baseball uniform of all time.)

    - My goal here was to amplify those beautiful shades of red and periwinkle and minimize but not entirely get rid of navy, given the team's precedent for wearing it. The Halos would therefore be a mainly red and periwinkle team at home, saving their navy-dominant look for away games.

    - I didn't want to ditch the pinstripes entirely, so I added subtle pins to the road uniforms, inspired by the Twins' new away set. I also added a headspoon for good measure.
    - For the alts, I moved the TV numbers from the sleeves to the front for consistency with the primary jerseys.

    - Props to @Victormrey for suggesting I use Anaheim's primary logo for the home and road alt's sleeve patch, replacing the original alternate logo which I never felt fit the rest of the branding, especially given its use of metallic gold and total lack of red.

    C&C appreciated!

    Atlanta Braves v1.5

For the sake of brevity, I'm starting a new post for the Braves. Here's what they would look like with cream becoming the full-time home color, and contrasting navy-blue Tomahawks. 70's throwbacks are grouped in here to have some variation.

I hear you, the white and cream uniforms are close enough that it is a bit redundant. Guess I just like the current home uniforms too much to drop them completely (although they definitely could). Cream does look amazing with their design IMO.

Just curious, which of these hypothetical variations do you think looks better?

I'd go with the second option. I've always loved the contrasting tomahawk and those striped socks!

  4. LOVE IT! Great wordmarks, logos and use of color. I’d never heard the term “pronghorns” before now but it has a cool, old timey baseball sound to it.

The only thing I’m not big on is the state outline cap. I think from a distance it would just look like a red blob.

Can’t wait to see what other teams you have in store!

While I like the magneta, I would have stuck with Purple and while there would still be comparisons with The Rockies, the cream base and the Arizona AF colours of Copper and Teal (along with the sleeveless jersey being the definative version) would distinguish it enough from the Rockies. And for my money, the Arizona Diamondbacks got far closer to a timeless look with their 2001 home sleeveless Jersey uniform with the A logo than Colorado ever did with any variant of their home look.

I would like to see an update for The Rockies, considering out of all of the four teams, they were the only ones to stick with their look apart from a subtle change with their purple shade, and it's probably the look that has aged the worst.

I tend to think the Rockies should "own" purple the way the Padres own brown or the A's own green and gold. After all, they beat Arizona to it by five years :wink2: and the color is more germane to their identity (purple mountain majesty). I think magenta works just as well for Arizona to convey a Southwestern feel, especially by evoking desert skies at sunset

What are you thinking for a Rockies tweak? One idea I had was to go straight purple, dropping the black entirely, or pairing purple with green, a la the team's City Connect look.

  6. The all-caps version of the wordmark is a definite improvement. I'd like to see the all-caps applied to the road wordmark, as well. I also LOVE the crossed pickaxe and bat logo. Nice work!

My only big critique of the set as whole is that the primary shade of purple looks a little too washed out for my tastes. I would try out a richer shade, closer to what the team uses in real life.

I dig these, and you've improved them from the actual versions by swapping the number and logo around on the shirts. I was wondering how these might look with sleeveless jerseys (with the cuff trim moved to the arm opening) and a red brimmed hat for the red jerseyed uniform.

Also wondering how they would look with a headspoon.

No worries, sorry I didn't explain it well. I'm simply asking if you thought about using this star in your design at all?

I think it would really fit the vibe for a City Connect set for the Rangers.

Ah, got it. How about a simplified version of that logo for the jersey crest, like an actual badge?

This entire series has been fantastic! Arizona's color palette and distribution is great, and really allows both colors to be visible without one being overpowering. My only suggestion would be to see a version of the jerseys without the drop-shadow on the wordmark, as I think it looks a bit out of place with the rest of the jersey elements. Great work!

Thank you! And good suggestion to remove drop shadows. I had completely forgotten that Arizona actually used a non-drop shadowed version of that script, so I don't know why I didn't just use that to begin with. The other solution would've been to add drop shadows to the numbers, which I didn't want to do.

I think it's a mistake to drop copper, as not only is it the state metal of Arizona, when it oxidizes it produces teal/turquoise and black compounds. A D-Backs Uniform never feels right without the copper, I would like to see a brighter copper used instead of the cream for the logos, trim and numbers. The cream as the base colour for home and home alt pants looks great with the new magneta colour.

I would also use the db snakehead logo on the sleeves of at least one of the jerseys, that logo is beautiful and with it's abstract, angular design, feels like it should have been in the original logo set instead of the snake with the baseball.

How about replacing not cream, but black with that shade of copper you shared? I feel I still need a very light color like cream or white trim to break up the other three colors, or my concept is going to wind up having the same problem as those original D-Backs uniforms.

As for the snake "db," the premise of this series was updating the expansion teams' original looks, and the "db" wasn't introduced until 2007. While I don't mind that logo, I would never choose it over the original snake, and two snake-themed logos on one design would be overkill, in my opinion.

@fortunat1 @VampyrRabbit here's an update of the D-Backs incorporating both of your suggestions:

    D-BACKS HOME:

    D-Backs-Home-w-light-copper.png

    D-BACKS ROAD:

    D-Back-Road-w-light-copper.png

    D-BACKS HOME ALT:

    D-Backs-Home-Alt-light-copper.png

    D-BACKS ROAD ALT:

    D-Backs-Road-Alt-w-light-copper.png

I opted to drop the pinstripes from the road set, because I realized the D-Backs were probably just chasing trends as road pins were big in the '90s, and I like the idea of the Padres owning that look in the NL West in the present day. I feel the non-pinstriped version looks cleaner.

Also, despite the fact that I pretty much eliminated black from this version, I kept the black alt because it looks too good not to use.

    C&C appreciated!

I really thought they would go with a green/white Washington State Ferries theme. Methinks they noticed how well loved the Kraken RR’s were and wanted a piece of the action. No one in Seattle is nostalgic for the Pilots… and there are better actual “city”connect ideas like using the city flag, or ferries, grunge, Mount Rainier (which they did a little in this set), pike place,  etc.

Given the thought process behind the Rangers set, I guess I'm not surprised the Mariners design pays homage to the history of baseball in Seattle, though I would've loved to see something referencing the Rainiers instead of or in addition to the Pilots. Maybe there will be in one of the small details once the set is officially unveiled.

I love what you've done for the Rangers! Since the team is the Texas Rangers, and these releases focus on clubs' cities/states, I think swapping the dark grey for blue really improves the concept.

Not sure if someone has commented this before, but props for recreating the actual unis! It offers a better way to compare the real deal with your tweaks.

    Thanks, guys!

Great improvements on Texas! The red jersey variation might be the best one of the bunch.

Just an idea - any chance you could make a variation using a "Texas Ranger" sort of motif? (Like the star from their old logo). When I heard they were making a City Connect, I was hoping they might incorporate something like that. Even just as an accent.

Sorry, but I don't really understand your request. Do you want one of the Rangers' regular scripts or logos incorporated into the City Connect design somehow?

  11. See, this City Connect set is why I felt it was the wrong move for Seattle to drop their gray road jersey instead of their Sunday home alts. They now have two separate looks in their rotation that are royal blue and athletic gold, despite the team’s primary colors being Northwest green and navy. Dumb.

Tampa Bay is great, the sleeve stripes and the gradient are both fantastic.

As for the Marlins, I much prefer the teal and black, the current logos look really good in that colour scheme.

    Thanks!

Wrapping up today with the D-Backs:

    D-BACKS ROAD ALT:

    D-Backs-road-alt.png

    Notes:

    - A few years back, someone on this forum suggested the D-Backs split the difference between their original purple and current Sedona red and roll with a shade of magenta, so that's what I did here. The color evokes the purple of the early D-Backs, but it's different enough that you'd avoid comparisons with the division rival Rockies.

    - I went back and forth on whether to put Arizona in vests for their home look but ultimately decided against it. For my money, only a few teams in MLB have ever truly looked good in vests (Pirates, Reds, A's and maybe Rockies) and sleeveless jerseys feel like one of those fads that's best left in the late '90s-early 2000s.

    - No tacky "D-Backs" wordmark on either of the alts, just "Arizona" and the "A" logo.
    - One of my big issues with the original D-Backs uniforms was the combination of multiple muted colors, so in addition to magenta replacing purple, copper is replaced with the yellowish off-white from the home uniform.
    - Decided to use the rounded numbers from the team's 2007-15- look.

C&C appreciated! No reason to touch the Rockies, unless someone can make a compelling case for it.

  13. Up today are the Rangers!

    Rangers-no-outlines.png

    Notes:

    - I really like what Texas did so no major changes, the biggest being swapping the "TX" and numbers on the front of the jersey.  Placing the logo on the right breast seems like a case of being different just for the sake of it, but the end result looks awkward.

    - The new set is allegedly "pitch blue" but looks black to me, so I just went black.

    - I added some red to the top of the socks to create some much-needed visual separation from the pants.

    - Lastly, red trim is applied to the cap logo.

And here are a few variations I worked up:

First up, for those who aren't big on dark pants with light colored jerseys, here's an inverted version:

    Rangers-black-jersey-cream-pants-no-outl

Next, I wanted to try a monochrome black look:

    Rangers-mono-black.png

And since the Rangers have sadly retired their red alternates this season, a red version:

    Rangers-red.png

Note: I had to add outlines to the logos and numbers for this one, since the black did not pop enough against the red.

Lastly, I was curious how the set would look in the Rangers' usual colors:

    Rangers-blue-red-no-outlines.png

    C&C appreciated!

A bit of a snap judgement on this one, but this Texas set really contributes to my idea that Nike has fumbled nearly all of the pants throughout the CC series.

My personal opinion is that for the most part, light jerseys should have matching pants, while dark jerseys should have light pants. Somehow Nike decided that their navy jerseys warranted matching pants, but couldn't manage to introduce their tan and powder blue jerseys with matching pants. I know that this whole program was meant to push the needle in terms of modern jersey design, but I feel like they went extreme at the wrong times, and showed restraint where they didn't really need to.

Quick fixes would be to give Milwaukee, Boston, and Texas matching pants, and taking away Houston/LA's navy pants. The Cubs' navy pants are alright when they actually have the socks visible, so I'd compromise by allowing them to use either navy pants or solid white pants with their CC top. Just my 2 cents though.

This is proof to me that white/off-white jerseys with darker colored pants can work:

But I think we can officially say (after the find of the Mariners cap in the colors of those Orioles socks seemed to strongly suggest it) that the sock leak was nothing to do with City Connect.

Why do you say that? The socks are black and red, the same colors as this set, and the Braves socks that leaked at the same time as all the other teams were consistent with the Braves design.
