  1. If I win this season will I be the first champion to win a second time, @Kramerica Industries? Panthers Seahawks Bears Dolphins Titans Bills Giants Chiefs Saints Raiders Rams Cowboys 49ers Eagles
  2. That reminds me of something I've been meaning to post about the Eagles. One thing I liked about the late 90's redesign was the wings were shaped to flow out of the bumper on the front of the helmet, which looked way better to me than the previous version that just clunkily terminated in the front* Now though the helmets have changed and it looks like the decal is shorter in the front than it used to be so now the abrupt cutoff in the front has returned. Don't like it! *In 1999 my peewee football team was the Eagles. Every kid in the league was given a plain white helmet with a grey facemask and then each team decorated them with an NFL team's decals. Imagine my disappointment as a young sports aesthete when our preseason practices ended and I finally got to see the decals and they weren't the new cool looking wings, they were the old wings in plain green. Our helmets looked like the Eagles of the early 70's . Also the coaches applied the wings on top of the bumpers instead of next to the bumpers and that always bothered me as well.
  3. A full overhaul wasn't necessary for the Lions 20 years ago. It was a Michael Bolton in "Office Space" situation - why should they change? The Cowboys uniforms are the ones who suck. I actually kind of like their current uniforms (dumb all gray alternates excluded) because they actually try to express a statement, are evocative of car culture, and don't try to smash black into the uniform the way the previous two iterations did, but they're not better than those 90's uniforms. I'd gleefully welcome a return of them.
  4. The Reds have already said they're not going to have a drastically different roster from the one that just lost 100 games. It's like they're trying to sell zero tickets.
  5. They don't look like the Cowboys at all. That was a great football uniform. Slap the new logo on the helmet and call it done. Even the blue pants can come back. That looked really silly at the time, but things have gone so far since then that it almost looks good now.
  6. This was their third primetime home game this season. The Bengals get to play three primetime road games against divisional opponents. Seems fair. He was like the worst ranked running back in the league in terms of yards per carry and tackles missed. This performance really came out of nowhere.
  7. What is the Jets dumb obsession with the black pants? This is why I loathe when any team who doesn't traditionally wear black comes out with some all-black alternate - because the team can never help themselves and eventually you see the black pants or jersey rotated in with other combinations that were never designed to be worn with. The Jets and Eagles have already succumbed to their worst combination desires, the Jets refuse to wear anything else besides black pants. Won't surprise me when Washington wears their black pants with the home or road uniforms.
  8. I’m old enough to remember when Chase Utley ran to first base after a pitch missed him by six inches in the 2010 NLDS. That was always a chicken, scoundrel move that never sat right with me. I’m happy for Dusty Baker and that’s about it. Glad the worst baseball season of my lifetime is finally over.
  9. Not sure if any one player has ever had a better uniform career than that dude.
  10. The actual shirt for the Rockies uniforms and mimicking the license plate is a cool idea. It's just I cannot get past dark colored pants. They look good with white pants. I am actively trying to get used to dark color baseball pants because it feels like they're not going anywhere and I just cannot get used to them.
  11. The Astros had a 3-2 lead going back to Houston against an NL East team in 2019 too. That was really weird series. The road team won all 7 games.
  12. Was that intentional or the result of their ability or lack thereof to consistently reproduce a color? Seems like the Phillies had a hard time in that era finding a consistent shade of burgundy across all their gear. But also willing to accept that photos can distort how colors actually looked. My least favorite of their combinations of that uniform. I prefer the yellow pants with either jersey.
  13. My problem with the Phillies powder blues is that it wasn't a home uniform, but they wear that throwback exclusively at home. The actual home uniform from those days was a nice look itself and I would've been less cranky about wearing it in the world series last night because it spiritually does the same thing as their regular pinstriped home uniform. I get why they wear the powder blues at home (because it's more visibly throwback and more divergent from their current home/road look than the home pinstripes were), but I don't like this revisionism that the throwback gear in tees, hoodies, hats, etc tends to push in that the Phillies colors back then were a burgundy and powder blue team. The colors were burgundy and white and they wore powder blue on the road. It's a bit like saying gray is an official team color of the Phillies now.
  14. I like playing with the format so that not every team is in gray on the road, but that only applies to light color pants. I'll allow a powder blue, dark cream, the Padres sand, maybe even a muted yellow if someone wanted to try that, and some variations on gray. What I don't think I'll ever get used to is dark color pants. That just will always look weird and silly to me.
  15. The powder blue of the throwbacks seems heavier and richer than the powder blue of the actual uniforms from the 70's and 80's. Maybe that's just old photographs, but I think it was more muted back then. (killer pose by the way) am I wrong?
  16. I believe the Phillies burgundy swirly P with accompanying light blue ROAD uniforms of the 70's and 80's is vastly superior in every way to the 1993 red and white uniforms and it's what the Phillies should be wearing for every game, but I'm glad and relieved they won't be clinching the World Series in the powder blue throwbacks. That'd be a weird anachronistic uniform curio that we should try to avoid. The 2016 Cavs are always my example for this. They wore black T-shirts in what would become the biggest moment in franchise history and nobody stopped them and now it looks silly. It's sort of like if the Hartford Whalers had won the Stanley Cup while wearing cooperalls. A short-lived trend cemented forever. I don't like alternate uniforms in the playoffs for that reason. If the burgundy look is good enough to wear when you're playing to clinch the World Series then that should be what you wear all the time. If not then stick to your primary look for postseason games.
  17. Can someone explain to me like I'm 5 why that move worked and what exactly happened? I don't follow Nascar that closely and I haven't been able to find a good summarization.
  18. And the TV numbers are very legible on the Packers. I don't take a hardline stance like our new friend thinks. Sometimes TV numbers are okay, but I'm also not going to argue that every football uniform must have them even when they're shrinking to a humorously small size like the Panthers and a couple other teams. One of my favorite football uniforms ever, actually, is the Eddie George era Ohio State with the champion numbers you could read from space. But that was at a time when shoulder pad real estate was at its absolute peak in terms of size and you could get away with it. It looked cool because you had the space to pull it off. Even with the size of those numbers there's still space for the stripes and room for the numbers to breathe. These days the space is at least half of what it was back then and if a team wants to use that space for a design element like a series of stripes or a logo then the first thing I'm cutting is the TV number, which isn't and never has been an absolute necessity (IDK if you know this, but there's two very large numbers on the front and back of a football jersey). If OSU went back to the correct sleeve stripes like the Good Dude intended then I wouldn't be bothered if they opted against TV numbers altogether or used the 68 throwback with the black TV number full-time.
  19. I'm not a mod, but here's some things that I find annoying: - Taking someone's subjective opinion on football uniforms so personally. - Behaving like your solution is the only correct solution. - Strawman arguments. - Trying to catch people in some sort of logical contradiction - not every uniform is the same equation and not everything is a 1-to-1 comparison or black & white. Just because something works for Team X doesn't mean I'd like to see it on Teams, A, E, I, O, and U. Just because something works for Teams, A, E, I, O, and U doesn't mean I'd like to see it for Team X. - Generalizing statements like "People here only like traditional and boring uniforms". - edit: downvoting reasonable advice
  20. Eagles Pats Packers Chargers Bills Vikings Panthers Raiders Dolphins Seahawks Bucs Chiefs Ravens
  21. The cat scratch thing has been tried before. So it looks dumb on the Panthers and was tried by a college team in 2008. Putting scratch marks on a Panthers concept has become such a trope of the concepts board that it's up there with "The Minnesota Twins should wear purple and yellow" or "What if the Broncos 1997 horse head logo was inside of a D?" or "What if Penn State put the oval lion logo on the helmet?"
  22. Not surprised at all from my perspective. All of the Browns strengths line up with all of the Bengals weaknesses. It's a terrible matchup for the Bengals. The matchup problem only compounds if the game unfolds in the Browns favor. Same thing happened last year in their October game. That's why the Bengals can beat the Chiefs twice, but lose by 30 to the :censored:ing Browns. The Bengals are the same team as last year with worst injury luck. The real problem is losing the #1 shutdown corner. If he's out for the year you can probably scratch them off right now.
  23. Wouldn't be a World Series in Philadelphia without loads of rain.
