  1. No one wants to watch a sport if there is a widespread (i.e. not some low-budget horsehockey YouTube video about how the NFL is rigged) perception that the players are on the take. They get money from the league from ludomaniacs via revenue sharing as it is so trying to win money from gambling is like dipping into the cookie jar after eating a whole pack of Oreos. Plus, you don't make examples of players because you think you can catch everyone. You make examples out of players so that the rest understand that if they get caught there WILL be punishment. It's not the harshness of punishment that's a deterrent. It's the certainty of it.
  2. Just means that he’s a pervert and the most unbelievable part about his whole story is that he’d wait 3 hours for a cupcake. Then again, maybe we should have seen perversion coming from a guy who named his handle after a sex act and his weight.
  3. Did Gary Bettman kill a hooker in Arizona? That’s the only explanation I have for why he’s kept the team there because anyone doing it for pride would’ve checked out before a quarter century hit.
  4. I'm pretty sure this is nothing, but IMO, an NHL team has a better shot at long-term success than an NBA team does. If the NBA team sucks, people can go to Lawrence, Manhattan or Columbia to watch good basketball. Not so much with an NHL team. Plus, there's the whole in-state rivalry with St. Louis but, again, I'm pretty sure that Patrick Mahomes is :censored:posting. Also, let me highlight this
  5. I guess that’s why they play the game. Either way, really looking forward to it.
  6. They’ve gotten good but they’re not that good. I may eat my words if they win but as of right now, I’d take the Chiefs by 10-14.
  7. 1.35 million isn't too bad in 2023 all things considered.
  8. But at the end of the day, credit is due to @Ferdinand Cesarano. He believed in Luis Perez and the Renegades when no one else did. If anyone has the right to say that they totally saw this coming, he does.
  9. More than I thought would be there. Still should have it at the team with the better record's home stadium IMO. Only the NFL can get away with having their championship at a neutral site. Luis Perez might wind up getting an NFL roster spot from this. Good for him.
  10. The key is to be consistently successful, not purge the team the moment the World Series trophy is set down.
  11. They Bare Bears Still, can't believe that the Lions are going to be the sacrifice team the Chiefs open the season against.
  12. This was pretty funny IMO. Also, I have to appreciate how the NFL has turned the release of the schedule into must-see TV.
  13. NFL Schedule is officially out. Probably going to Minneapolis this year. Will be neat to see a road game.
  14. So, 7 All-XFL starters for the Defenders and 1 for the Renegades. I want to think it's going to be a re-enactment of the Million Dollar Game but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a shootout like the last matchup. I'd say alt-football is a guilty pleasure but I feel no guilt in enjoying it. I'll take fillerball to hold me over because the Royals sure as ain't.
  15. Okay, I'll take the L about Oakland. It could support the A's if an owner who gave a damn bought the team. But that's the issue: No owner since the Bash Brothers days has given a damn about the A's. The issue is finding someone who does.
  16. Where did I say spending public money on a stadium was a good idea?
  17. I’m not saying the people are bad or even anything all that negative. I’m saying that they tend to be poor or working-class and considering that CoL in California in general and the Bay Area in particular is already inflated to hell and back, that leaves even less money for disposable income than such a situation typically would. So, to get more support for a team, there needs to be more money flying around. Maybe Oakland can try to lure some companies looking for cheaper real estate from Silicon Valley but don’t want to leave California. The city government is bog-standard incompetence but that’s every city.
  18. Oakland is going to have to have a wealth boom before any major league team ends up there again. It’s too small, too poor and too broke to have more than one and even that’s in question. Maybe they can take advantage of San Francisco’s collapse?
  19. Dave Stewart is the face of the Nashville group. Now, he’s still important because you need someone who was in the game because that helps with PR, but two things: Number 1: No one is going to outright say that they are going to rip a team out of its home market. Even Clay Bennett didn’t say he was wanting to move to Oklahoma City until it happened despite every other sign screaming it. Number 2: I’d look at the Executive Committee. Those are the real big shots who are going to be making the decisions. I have hyperlinked the Music City Baseball’s board so anyone can see for themselves. As for the stadium? Well, Nissan Stadium is about to hit the dust. Just saying. Disregard, this is actually the plan: ”Music City Baseball has carefully studied multiple possible sites in Davidson, Williamson and Rutherford Counties. Presently, we are focusing on a tract of land on the Tennessee State University campus, along the Cumberland River. This location would put the stadium less than four miles from downtown Nashville. We envision that the baseball stadium, which will serve as a sports and entertainment venue, will be part of a mixed-use family sports and entertainment district.”
  20. So they’ll probably wind up trying to move the team to Nashville instead of Las Vegas. Besides, Oakland is a sewer. No wonder the Raiders and Dubs left.
  21. The ones that are acceptable are the ones who don’t need to be on life support to succeed. So basically every team but Arizona and until very recently Florida and I’m not even sure they’re out of the woods yet.
  22. Everything is a social construct if you break it down, thus, that term has no meaning. What is true, is that time has an effect on other people and Canadians like @IceCap are tired of being treated like second-class fans.
  23. Good. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can start climbing back up. Thankfully for Mr. Swearinger, rock bottom is ending up in the XFL and not OD’ing in an alley.
  24. Letting Antonio Brown have any job title except “Clown” is asking for trouble.
