  1. Temple had a similar gradient-diamond effect on their sleeves a few years back, but IMO it looked fine the way they did it, and the rest of the uniform was rather traditional. Their helmet stripe sucked, but the rest was fine.
  2. I just meant anonymity for me personally, but I’m sure I wasn’t alone. I never saw Inside the NFL because I think it was on cable, which because reasons, we didn’t have until ‘93 (and never HBO so I wouldn’t have seen it regardless).
  3. Lol, Sixers president Darryl Morey was found to be a follower and occasional commenter on the “Girls In Yoga Pants” instagram account, and local blogs having fun with it - and he’s having fun with it.
  4. Since the subject of retired numbers has been a thing lately, here's one reason why they're so special and shouldn't be tampered with: when Joe Montana went to the Chiefs, I thought it was really strange that he took #19, then I found out that he couldn't have #16 because it was retired for some guy named Len Dawson that I had never heard of at the time. I forget if I found an NFL history book, or an old Sports Illustrated, or maybe saw an NFL films or something (it's not like I could have just Googled him back then) but that's how I learned about how great he was and how important to the Chiefs he was. Had his number not been retired, or had they unretired it for Montana, he would have vanished from history and I'd never have any idea he ever existed, which would have been a shame because he was a great one and a deserving HOFer.
  5. My bad - I mistakenly thought that the Twitter that I found the interview on was the actual reporter's, but it was simply a retweet. Warren Sharp still seems like a sleezy gambling analyst, but he's not the reporter in question. The actual "reporter" is an "Emmy-award-winning sports anchor" for the local ABC affiliate. Well, he lost his access to Commander players so good luck with that job. Reading his Twitter feed, he got exactly what he wanted - tons of attention and retweets. He's not wrong about anything he said, but a complete dbag for talking to an athlete like that when he's been granted privileged access for a 1:1 interview. You can ask the same things without being disrespectful.
  6. nlds? The Phillies passed them for the 2nd wc a while ago and would host a 1st round series, and they own the season series. Without their best player. EDIT: Ironic that Keith Hernandez said he wouldn't broadcast any more Mets/Phillies games because the Phillies suck at defense, and then the Phillies immediately go on to beat Scherzer and the Mets 2-1 in what was their best defensive game of the season.
  7. Looking at his bio, he seems like one of those sleezy gambling analysts - not sure how he got a media cred to do that interview in the first place unless his company is partnered with the WFT for some reason. His site give me the impression he's closer to a used car salesman than a legitimate journalist. https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/
  8. My feelings re: Carson Wentz are well known, but this reporter went too far and should be fired immediately. I just read that the Commanders president has banned him and he won't get any more access to Washington players. Way to throw a career away by being a complete ass - there's so many ways to word the question other than the way he did, and Wentz handled it as well as anyone possibly could. I'd've whipped my helmet into his face. 0:33 seconds.
  9. Is that true though? Seems like plenty of teams want to touch him, they just don't have what it takes to make the trade. Also, he's not a risk of being suspended during the season like Antonio Brown always was because of his batsht craziness. Narcissistic, maybe. But Antonio Brown isn't a fair comparison.
  10. that would have been great. Their initial road was kinda like that and had they lightened the blue and committed to the DC cap but in Caps/Wizards colors, they would have looked amazing. Maybe drop the red altogether and replace with black.
  11. Those are great choices for names. I think with maybe the exception of Gretzky and maybe Lemieux (since their numbers were rare and 1:1 associated with them), having a big-deal award named for you is a bigger tribute than the Pelicans retiring #6. If anything, retiring 99 actually protects future players, since anyone who would choose to wear it would be instantly compared to Gretzky and almost certainly never live up to that. But that’s about the only case I can think of (maybe Lemieux, who was the best hockey player I’ve ever seen live, and back in the day I went to lots of games and saw all the greats of early-mid 90s, but falls short of Gretzky on the all-time list).
  12. that seems like a fitting tribute - that’s a pretty special award. It’s like being put on national currency. Unless Jordan gets cancelled, they can put his name on something special too (maybe it already is and I don’t know). Do the conference finals trophies have names of people? Maybe the ECF trophy becomes the Jordan trophy and the WCF the… someone else trophy?
  13. Much like with Jackie, I think if you're going to do something like this, you do it before 5,000 other players have worn the number. I'm familiar with his resume, but 6 isn't special because of him the same way that 23 is synonymous with Jordan and 99 with Gretzky. I would wager that a very high percentage of people who know of Bill Russell didn't know that he was #6. There's no need for this.
  14. Other than not issuing #6, are teams going to be forced to "acknowledge" this by hanging banners? Specifically, are the Sixers going to need to hang a second #6 banner next to Dr. J's... or would they be in compliance since 6 is already retired? I'm fairly certain that all MLB teams display Robinson's 42 in a similar way that they do their other numbers, but I think that's a little different (and other than Mariano Rivera, I'm not sure how many 42s were already retired in MLB, vs at least a handful in NBA.)
  15. The 76ers are the easiest trade partner. Tobias Harris (for his huge but expiring soon contract), Tyrese Maxey (young potential star), maybe Matisse Thybuile, and then draft picks in 2065 or whenever they next have any.) Based on stuff I've read, they match up the best, considering there's no way that the Nets are getting equal talent back.
  16. Looks like a poly jersey with the heathered effect - did that even exist back in the day, and if so, did he wear one?
  17. Keith Hernandez said, on air, that he asked off for all games against the Phillies because they’re such a fundamentally bad defense team that he cant stand watching them play, even though he gets paid for it. I love this so much. Sports needs so much more stuff like this!
  18. Back in the day, the plackets were separate pieces that were sewed on, so the pinstripes didn't always match.
  19. Just realized these were posted in the 2023 thread. Maybe a mod could merge them into the 2022 one.
  20. If you look close, it looks like all the stripes are hand painted, with the navy (or black?) ones being painted first, then the red band on top (you can see the stripes through the red band.) Given what that takes (especially considering all the ridges in the helmet, which you can kinda see in the back, I'm more than willing to give them a pass for omitting the stripes that would go behind the C. You'd be able to see them bleed through, which would be no good. They could have done the brim ones - not sure why they'd go so far only to skip those, unless they thought that since they wouldn't have crown stripes to connect to, they weren't needed? Overall, great job with this.
  21. I guess it matches the W in their first logo, but it clashes with the wordmark. It would look better if the sides were straight. It would look even better if it didn't even exist and they just went with the DC - or maybe even just a D. But definitely DC.
  22. According to the listing: "Rep your hometown team with this Philadelphia Eagles City Transit cuffed knit hat from New Era. It's covered in city-inspired graphics catered to your favorite team's home base, including embroidered details of their appearance in Super Bowl LII. This cold-weather cap also has a flexible, unstructured design to help provide a snug, comfortable fit." Motorcross/ATV terrorists have basically ruined parts of the city over the past couple of years and are a very serious issue that's forcing people out of their houses and making businesses abandon certain neighborhoods, so if they're trying to make a positive association between those bikes and the city, that's a poor decision and I wouldn't advise wearing it. It's an absurdly ugly hat anyway - here's the back. I've never heard the term "South Philadelphia East" - I think they just screen shotted a Google Maps and some clip art and slapped whatever they could on it.
  23. I too liked the various Grays proposals, but I'm really against using any kind of W, and would really like the DC teams to use DC logos. There's so much potential for cool interlocking DC logos - it's a shame they're not used more often. That, and nobody I know ever says "Washington" unless they're buying an Amtrak ticket or referring to the government. It's just DC.
  24. That's not good news for everyone...
