ATLANTA DREAM

When I saw the Dream's heroine and explorer uniforms, I thought that they could've done more, though I applaud the meaning behind the sublimated design, because from afar, these uniforms look like plain white and red to me. Thus, a redesign is needed. I based the side panel design from the logo, with several miniature stripes running down all the way to the shorts. I tried to incorporate the 16 sublimated rays from the original design, but I eventually decided not to include those.

Probably, the lone bright spot in the uniform reveal is the rebel uniform. I originally thought that if this uniform was recolored to team colors, then this should be the actual design for the white and red uniforms. Aside from the number font, NOB placement and the WNBA patches, everything else is retained.

Since the league overall has been at the forefront of social change, I thought it would be fitting to have a team named 'Dream' to incorporate it on a uniform. With that, I looked upon the HBCUs in the state of Georgia. This storyteller uniform was inspired from the court used at the 2021 NBA All-Star Weekend in Atlanta, where there was an emphasis on the HBCU theme. Though there are two similar colors on the design (two blues and two purples), there are 10 colors for the star-laden uniform, representing the 10 HBCUs in Georgia. On top of that, keeping with the collegiate flavor, I went with a usual varsity athletic font.

  • edjb93 changed the title to WNBA Uniform Concepts - I Have A Dream

One of the next teams I'm going to conceptualize is the Phoenix Mercury. I already made the designs for the heroine (white), explorer (purple), and rebel (orange) uniforms. All three share the same design, which was inspired by the streaks on the team's logo. Later on, I found out that the side panel design formed an 'X', representing the X-Factor, the fans of the team.

In addition to what I mentioned, the rebel uniform takes some color notes from the team's inaugural road uniforms.

The only thing that's missing is the storyteller uniform. I'm planning to pattern the design after the great Suns 90's uniforms or the most recent "The Valley" uniforms, but I don't know what to choose.

Thus, I need your help on this one. I would like to hear your suggestions and inputs regarding the design of the storyteller uniform. Comment them down here! 😉

DALLAS WINGS

While the help for the Mercury is ongoing, I actually made concepts for the Wings before I made the designs for the Mercury. While I applaud the wing design on the side panels, I do have one complaint: lack of lighter shade of blue. I rectified the heroine and explorer uniforms by adding that lighter shade (cyan) to every part of each uniform, specifically the side panel wings.

I initially wanted a royal blue uniform, but lime green is frequently used more than that, so I went with it as the rebel uniform color. If you're going to notice, I have transferred the 'Wings Dallas' script to the rebel edition, since I used only 'Wings' on the heroine jersey. The rebel uniform follows the same design as the first two, but it would lack white (save for the logo on the shorts' garter), just the way I wanted it.

Finally, you may say, 'that's just the Mavs 2021 city uniform!' Well, for a team named after an icon in Dallas, it would be fitting that the team would adopt the uniform that their NBA counterpart wore. The big differences here are the silver portions of the wing design (no longer in gradient) and the logos and numbers.

Yes, the search is still ongoing. Comment your suggestions on the Phoenix Mercury storyteller uniform here! I'll be waiting for your insights.

Personally I'd rather see something new for the Phoenix alternate than a Suns callout... Maybe something with scales from a local lizard, or with turquoise or copper... That said, if you want to go the mountain route like the Suns' Valley jersey, maybe you could incorporate Piestewa Peak instead of Camelback Mountain?

Sorry it took a while for me to actually say it... but that Chicago theatre-themed alternate is gorgeous! Well done!

I also like that yellow alt with the fauxback side panels; the design and color balancing are really solid. I'd just like to see the two antennae things on top of the tower to remind a bit more of the Willis Tower. The home and away have a bit too much emphasis on black for my taste; it can work as a minimal accent but right now it kinda muddies the color scheme a bit (which works well for the Chargers without black).

What you've done for Atlanta is a nice upgrade; you're right that their IRL look is too subtle. My only suggestions on the main set would be to try to make the side panel outline stripes thinner and place them "underneath" the sleeve (like I said for Vegas). I'm not sure about the zig-zag of the design on the gray alternate; I like the subtle curve that the IRL version has (much like your Wings jerseys...) The HBCU alt is solid, even though I don't often like the generic varsity block font!

The Wings seem to have a really difficult color scheme to work with, which is probably why there's so little cyan on the IRL set now... And I think the only way to make it work is to keep the neon green from touching either cyan or white. The IRL set gets that part right, IMO, by giving the wordmark navy outlines first, like you have on your collar trim. You might have either the script or the number in white and have the other in cyan to keep the new color hierarchy going.

I like the white-less alternate; that might also be a solution for the main set.

The Pegasus logo looks good on that final design, but I honestly think that any Dallas Pegasus-themed design needs to be red!

Anyways, lots of good work here again!

Given how WNBA emphasizes women empowerment since the league began, this is a great idea! I just don't know if I'm gonna incoporate the actual colors of the peak or not, though.

I had that idea in mind as well (in other words, I forgot), so I'll just add the antennae then.

Like I said, the storyteller uniform was based from the Mavs 2021 city uniform, but I also think the same way as you. As much as possible, I might not consider another white and red colorway for a storyteller uniform, since my Indiana Fever concept already took it, so I'm considering a 'night mode' colorway, which means that either black, navy, or some other color representing the night sky will be used as the base for the uniform, while red becomes the other primary color.

I'm in awe of a particular photo of the Pegasus. So much so, I have decided to go for a black-navy blue-royal blue gradient, symbolizing the night sky. I know most people are not fans of gradients on uniforms, but I think this could look awesome. I tried using solid navy, but it looked drab. Then, I also tried solid royal blue (similar to the team's previous primary road uniform), but the red gets lost. Black is also out since I already have many black uniforms in my concepts. The logos have been recolored to red with white outlines to mimic that work of art.

PHOENIX MERCURY

I made a complete redesign for the Mercury, because there's nothing too much to say about the team's current uniforms. The first three editions I made share the same design, which is based from the streaking lines on the logo. The result on the heroine and explorer uniforms is a clean look for the team.

Like what I mentioned earlier in this thread, the rebel edition is inspired from the team's inaugural road uniforms, by adding yellow accents to the uniform. Sorry, there's no yellow shoulder yoke on it, since it will make the uniform design too busy. Also, unlike the first two editions, I added a drop shadow to the front script and the numbers to somehow replicate the look from 1997.

Finally, we have the outcome of your help for the storyteller uniform. Thanks to @vtgco, this edition pays tribute to the Piestewa Peak, which is named after Army Specialist Lori Ann Piestewa, who made an ultimate sacrifice during the 2003 Iraq War (click the link for more info about the peak and its namesake). This uniform also draws inspiration from the Suns' The Valley uniform from 2021. Now, why dark gray? Simple: it signifies the color of the mountain range where the peak is included.

Hey You forgot to do the rest of the uniforms for The Sun,Lynx and the Mystics please?!

Thanks for reminding this one. I'm actually having a hard time conceptualizing the three remaining ACTIVE teams, although I'm done with the designs for the Lynx (logos, numbers, and NOB are the only ones missing). As a preview for the Lynx, I'll be having a uniform inspired by the northern lights.

So for everyone who's worried that I might be done here, I'll be the first one to say that it's not yet over, and this series has a long way to go, because I'll be including former WNBA cities here, with some going with new monickers (for example, the rights to the 'Shock' name remains in Detroit, so Tulsa will have to resort to another one).

Once again, thanks for your concern. 😉

But what about the Mystics and The Sun aren’t you going to do that?

Don't you worry, those teams will be on the way as well. I just don't know what should be the design for those teams, though I think there might be minimal changes when it comes to the Sun. Like I said, I have a hard time conceptualizing WNBA teams, because I want each team to be unique, even from their NBA counterparts.

MINNESOTA LYNX

Only few tweaks on the current heroine and explorer uniforms are needed to somehow improve the design. The lynx fur pattern on the sides is different from the actual, but I retained that motif anyway, and I also added more striping across the uniform, especially on the collar.

Initially, I have no idea on what design should I create for the rebel uniform, but eventually, I went with the same design from the two previous editions and made it grey. After this, another idea popped from my mind: put the lynx head logo front and center. I have two teams featuring logos at the front of their jerseys, but both are storyteller uniforms. This one is a different story, since the rebel edition is traditionally the primary alternate uniform.

Going with the storyteller uniform, I thought that the northern lights are a great motif for this. The Timberwolves never had a northern lights-themed uniform, even though they already had a uniform playing around the state motto, "L'Étoile du Nord", which is French for "The Star of the North". Just by the looks of my storyteller uniform for the Lynx, the overall theme evokes the bright and marvelous colors of the northern lights painted on a night sky. The wavy design on the uniform symbolize the curtain shape of the lights. On top of that, the aforementioned French motto adorns the front.

Alright, moderator stepping in here. That's enough bumping of this thread to ask about more artwork; it's getting annoying . I will direct you to the Concept Forum Guidelines, which state in part:

Concept threads may only be bumped by original posters who are posting revisions or adding new concepts to a series.

  • OPs may not bump inactive threads in an effort to obtain more comments.
  • Commentors may not bump inactive threads to ask questions about the status of the concept/series (eg. "Is this dead?")
  • Commentors may not bump inactive threads in an attempt to get the OP to post more artwork.

If the OP does more, he does more. If he doesn't, the world won't stop turning. Please stop pestering him about it.
