Believe it or not there is college football outside the FBS. A place to give these teams some recognition.

A few notes here... Division II and III have the same formats from before: a 28 team field in Division II and a 32 team field in Division III.

NAIA has expanded their field this season from 16 teams to 20 teams. They've also changed the rules for automatic bids - you just have to win your conference or division title to get in. They also seeded the top 12 teams in the field.

Opening Round

-St. Thomas (FL) at Reinhardt

-Montana Tech at Dickinson State (ND)

-Dordt (IA) at Ottawa (KS)

-Baker (KS) at Louisiana Christian

'Potential' First Round

-Opening Round Winner at (1) Northwestern (IA)

-(9) Evangel at (8) Montana Western

-(12) St. Xavier (IL) at (5) Marian (IN)

-Opening Round Winner at (4) Georgetown (KY)

-Opening Round Winner at (2) Grand View (IA)

-(10) Morningside (IA) at (7) Bethel (TN)

-Opening Round Winner at (3) Keiser (FL)

-(11) College of Idaho at (6) Indiana Wesleyan

Over in Division III, very few upsets happened... but there were four of them, though. The biggest being Grove City (undefeated this season and making their first ever playoff trip) scoring at the last seconds to beat Susquehanna.

Now, for the 2nd Round games.

Region #1

-Aurora at Wisconsin-La Crosse

-Trinity (TX) at North Central

Region #2

-Whitworth at Wartburg

-Wheaton (IL) at Wisconsin-Whitewater

Region #3

-Alma at Mount Union

-Grove City at SUNY-Cortland

Region #4

-Union at Johns Hopkins

-Ithaca at Randolph-Macon

Despite my parents being North Carolina A&T alums, I will be supporting North Carolina Central during the playoffs (A&T's arch rival). As well as the eastern teams in general. For reasons I don't understand I want Sacramento State to have a good run though.

Howard University will represent the MEAC in the Celebration Bowl. Howard will play the winner the SWAC championship game, either Florida A&M or Prairie View A&M.

Time to recap...

FCS

Only two road teams won their games - Sacramento State and Chattanooga. Otherwise, it's all about the home teams. This includes Delaware making a big comeback to hold off Lafayette.

Next Week - 2nd Round

-Mercer at (1) South Dakota State

-Youngstown State at (8) Villanova

-Richmond at (5) Albany

-Southern Illinois at (4) Idaho

-Sacramento State at (3) South Dakota

-North Dakota State at (6) Montana State

-Chattanooga at (7) Furman

-Delaware at (2) Montana

Division II

The top seeds had issues for the most part in the 2nd round as two of them - Tiffin and Benedict - were both knocked out while Harding held out by the skin of their teeth against Central Missouri. The only top seed to not have issues was Colorado School of Mines, who blasted Augustana.

Next Week - Quarterfinals

-(3) Kutztown at (4) Slippery Rock

-(4) Lenoir-Rhyne at (3) Valdosta State

-(2) Grand Valley State at (1) Harding

-Central Washington at (1) Colorado School of Mines

Division III

One of the traditional powers got stunned as Mount Union fell to Alma, of all teams. The Scots scored all of their points in the 4th quarter to defeat the Purple Raiders

Next Week - Quarterfinals

-North Central (IL) at Wisconsin-La Crosse

-Wisconsin-Whitewater at Wartburg

-SUNY Cortland at Alma

-Randolph-Macon at Johns Hopkins

NAIA

There were a couple of upsets as College of Idaho and St. Xavier both won their games. Outside of that, the higher seeds won.

Next Week - Quarterfinals

-(12) St. Xavier [IL] at (1) Northwestern [IA]

-(6) Indiana Wesleyan at (4) Georgetown [KY]

-(11) College of Idaho at (2) Grand View [IA]

-(7) Bethel [TN] at (3) Keiser [FL]

The NJCAA has their playoffs set for next weekend.

Saturday sees 4th ranked East Mississippi go north to play top ranked and top seed Hutchinson (KS). The other semifinal is on Sunday when 3rd ranked Kilgore (TX) goes to 2nd ranked Iowa Western.

There are also three bowl games in NJCAA Division I

Wool Bowl (Roswell, NM) - #7 Dodge City at #15 New Mexico Military

C.H.A.M.P.S Heart of Texas Bowl (Commerce, TX) - #6 Copiah-Lincoln (MS) vs. #10 Navarro (TX)

Game One Bowl (Cedar Falls, IA) - #5 Snow (UT) vs. #11 Iowa Central

In NJCAA Division III, the championship game pits Rochester (MN) against the College of DuPage (IL) in a rematch of an earlier game that saw DuPage defeat Rochester.

That was a tough one.  Maybe a different result if Lafayette doesn't lose its starting QB and TE to injuries before halftime.
