What's the difference? Proper field prep before and after the events. Just laying something down to protect the field should be the minimum that occurs. But if you don't do it right, it'll kill the grass off. 1
Dilbert
This is what Salt Lakes field looked like after their concert on July 16 They resodded the area and the Royals played on July 27th. Real Salt Lake will have their first game on August 1. If you have ample time like they did here it can work June 29 Utah Royals game July 6 Real Salt Lake game July 16 concert July 27 Utah Royals game July 31 Utah Royals game August 1 Real Salt Lake game In the case of Cincinnati and DC it was rushed with little time between the events. Not how you should be doing it. Also according to a FC Cincinnati beat writer, apparently Audi Field doesnt employ their own groundskeepers, but instead contracts them out. FC Cincinnati complained about the pitch conditions for their game on July 3. 1 Quote Signature intentionally left blank

You would think that for a facility thats now gonna be used year round and with 4 teams, they would have their own dedicated crew. 1 Quote Signature intentionally left blank

Dilbert
MLS has terminated the contract of FC Cincinnatis Aaron Boupendza. The league terminated his contract because he failed to live up to his contractual obligations. He has had many off the field issues over the last year including being late returning to the team from international duty, wanted for his arrest in his home country, and getting his jaw broken in a fight at a bar. His latest issue was he had been skipping team meetings and practice for the last week, telling the team he has been sick, despite being seen around the Cincinnati bars late at night. With the league terminating his contract, FCC is off the hook and no longer has to pay him. It also frees up a DP spot for the team. 1 Quote Signature intentionally left blank
schlim
Could be a wild internet rumor, or a plausible weird future under one monopolistic umbrella, but MLS may be starting a women's league in 2027? NYCFC is the first one in? Cleveland maybe? Indianapolis? Again, this is on the internet, so tread lightly. https://scarvesandspikes.com/2024/08/11/exclusive-mls-planning-launch-of-womens-league-after-2027-womens-world-cup/

Digby
Yeah, I don't think that sort of leak is going to credibly come from an author nobody knows on a blog called Scarves and Spikes. Let's keep our media literacy training hats on until a Goff or Tannenwald or Bogert type has a scoop worth discussing.

There's plenty of other venues in the area that could have accommodated an Audi Field size crowd. OT/SN: Blink 182 had a concert at Capital One Arena last night. Had no idea they were still active, and doubly surprised that they are still an NBA arena level draw blink just reunited and came back out with a new album last year, One More Time, and celebrating that. Too bad he's not involved with San Diego FC. As for the Wave, they would probably be an option in a few years for Catarina Macario should she eventually want to play in the United States. The other would be Bay FC as she has ties to both San Diego (moved there from Brazil) and the Bay Area (went to Stanford). Angel City could also be an option. Again, this is only if she wants to play professionally in the US in a few years.

Riot Fest threw a bitchfit about permits from the Chicago Park District, so they moved the whole thing to Bridgeview, where there was already a Red Stars game scheduled for that day. Apparently the lease says the stadium can bump any of its tenants if something better comes up, so they did, notified the Red Stars, who I guess just sat on it quietly until Riot Fest was announced two months later and only then got Mad Online. Now everyone is pissed at Riot Fest for moving to a suburban stadium that sucks to get to, at Bridgeview for bumping the ladies out of their suburban stadium that sucks to get to, and the Park District for not making Soldier Field available because there's a P!nk concert to prep it for. And now Bridgeview is saying the soccer team can use the stadium while Riot Fest uses the parking lot, which is insane. I think the Cubs already play that day, so no second game at Wrigley. UPDATE: Riot Fest moved back to Douglas Park because Brandon Johnson needs middle-aged white liberals to love him again, so the Red Stars game is presumably back on at its normal, disadvantageous location. (Headline: Pavement Concert Moved Off Pavement.) They still gotta get a real stadium built on or adjacent to the north side. GDAWG
USL Super League began playing tonight and it's not terrible soccer. They do not look to be in direct competition with the NWSL (except in Washington DC) as several USL Super League teams have players on loan from NWSL teams.
