The alternate uniforms are "home grays" based on typical Confederate uniforms of gray shirts and blue pants. The gray is dark enough that it should contrast with normal teams' lighter road grays. The cap, in particular, harkens to the gray kepis with black visors so often associated with the Army of Northern Virginia. Personally, I normally hate combinations of blue and black; it usually clashes quite badly. But the St. Paul Saints recently switched to a light blue and black scheme that works nicely, so I went that way with the rich gray mediating between the black and blue.
