markanthony
Wow! Love all the entries so far especially the Mudhens Macsot. There definetely is a big trend of beveling the wordmarks circling the world of sports design. I would love to see people moving on with the beveling concepts and more into a more fresh/unique styling(concepts are starting to look the same). The Stars concept is a nice bevel technique though. Two more pennies if you will...Not that my concepts are any more unique than anyone elses. I like how everyone builds off each other and inspires everyone. I have definetly been inspired by many here.

I agree with you on the concepts looking alike and people following trends...to a point.I think you know as well as I do, that clients constanty say "I want something that looks like ______" and its the flavor of the month. The trend in pro logos right now is moving towards simplicity. But in minor league logos, its family fun and gimics. You want something that is going to appeal to a large audience. The goal of a minor league logo is to sell merchendice. With pro logos you are going for the same thing, but they want a classic logo to represent their company. Their revenues aren't based as much on the merch as a minor league baseball team's.there are trends, but that's ok. As long as you don't get cookie cutters and people push themselves (this was my first purely created wordmark for example) I don't see any problems. markanthony
pcgd, good point. I remember playing little league and putting on my first little league MAJORS style jersey on...It had an effect on us playing like we truly were in the Majors. Mings
alright, I guess an explaniation of my style is in order. Being an architecture major I'm a modernist, for example I follow the quote Form follows function. Being that that has nothing to do with graphic design, there are two other quote to tell you whats going through my mind when I design. Less is More (Ludwig Mies van der Rohe) and Simplicity is in a sense perfection (John Powson). That is why all my designs are simplistic compared to others. Its just who I am. As for the stars this is how its involved. When I started working on it, It had no beveling to it. That looked really plain, So I added beveling to the star. Well that didnt go well with non beveled letters, so they got beveled and so on. My main focus was having a simplistic and effective logo, which in my mind I did, but being its minor league, Pat's style is definitely better for it. Blackjack76
That Mud Hens design is naughty. Can we have a separate contest for us Firebirds' hackers? That's not to say the other signed up for the Firedbirds are hackers; just me.I'm gunning for at best 6th Place now, which is like the green ribbon, if my 1st Grade Field Days memories are true.... jamesjduncan
I would like to explain my style as well..... :-) I fire up MS Paint. I try to go for something that actually looks like a baseball jersey. I try not to get laughed at too badly. My goal is to get one vote. I honestly think that with the caliber of competition here, and with the level fo quality being shown across the board, one vote would actually satisfy me for this contest. Carry on, my random blah is complete :-)L8r, -Jimmy
Gary
I have decided that there will be a first tier and a second tier of voting. of course pcqd, nitroseed, joshuamings, and Against All Odds will be on the first tier, they have won many challenges on that. I will put two more depending on how good your concept is. So it should be a little more fair.

How many artists on this board are actually professional designers, who either do this for a living or freelance? I had thought it would be cool to have "professional" category and an "amateur" category for hacks like me. Then again, I kind of like one category because even though I may never win, I can at least see how my efforts stack up against true talent.LT
nitroseed
Well, I have a BFA in Graphic Design, and I freelance, so I guess I could be considered a professional.
Mings
for me, I'm an architecture major, and they taught us the programs. This sort of was a way to help me learn the programs better, and then it ended up that I have landed a couple of freelance jobs, nothing major though.
