The Washington Redskins have played all their games this season in white uniforms not the burgundy jersey once. Does anyone have insight into this and does the NFL have a rule that a team must wear a certain color at least a few times each season?

The Redskins have worn white for most of the Joe Gibbs eras. Normally, they would have to break out the burgundy when they played their annual road game at Dallas, but the Cowboys went with the navy throwbacks against Washington this year, so the Redskins could possibly wear white at every game this season.

The only rule I know of regarding uniform color is that the home team has the choice of wearing dark or white and those decisions are usually made before the start of the season. There were rules regarding number of times teams could wear throwbacks / alternates, but I'm not sure if they are still in effect.

I guess Joe Knows Football... But it's the only burgundy jersey in the NFL and I kind of miss it even though it is rather boring and could use a refresh... Come on Joe, Go Burgndy for us...

The 'Skins whole uniform, from helmet to cleats, is one of the best in the history of the NFL.

Wether they wear white or burgundy, it is a pleasure to watch those uniforms in action.

They still suck though, GO GIANTS!

Those rules are still in effect. Teams can only wear throwbacks/alternates for two games a year. The Bills wore those magnificent throwbacks on opening day. They loved them so much that they wore them again the next week. They requested to wear them more (possibly for the entire year?), but the NFL said no. I hope they return to that style for next year, or 07 at the latest. Their current ones are horrible.

As for the Skins, I agree that the Burgundy jerseys are great. Part of the greatness is that they are barely ever worn. I didn't appreciate them as much when they wore them as their home jerseys the last few years.

One of my favorite jerseys is the old Cowboys blues, from the early 90s. They barely ever wore them, but they were incredible. The current blue jerseys are just awful.

I used to hate the Skins unis, but in the last few years ive gained a new found respect for the Redskins uniforms, especially the White jersey.

What you incorrectly call plain, is a SOLID design.

Oregon's all-whites are boring. Rutgers is boring. Jacksonville is boring.

The Redskins is Solid and classic and timeless.

That jersey doesn't even have the right numbers on it. The 2 and 6 are different weights.

In 2002 the throwbacks were the 'Skins official non-white jersey, leapfrogging the 2 alt per year rule.

I've always liked the burgundy 'Skins jerseys...I think they are sharp. I agree with the poster who liked the Cowboys blues from the early 90s too. Maybe it was just because they weren't worn as often, but I always liked watching games when those jerseys were being worn.

see, I know there are some unis that should never be tweaked or update IE Yankees and Packers. I would be all for the Skins keeping this but the only problem is that they had this since the early 80's. And the unis represent PLAIN design from that era. I would be complaining if the Giants or Eagles still had that era unis. Skins are just too blah. At least Marty tried to mix it up with the Dark top at homes which they NEVER wore.

Packers unis HAVE been tweaked, quite a bit, actually, over the years. Nothing major, but a large number of minor nibbles here and there.

Yankees uniforms are to old-school evil as Nike uniforms are to new-school evil. If they hadn't bought all those damned titles, maybe those ass-ugly things would be gone by now.

My one complaint about the current Redskins uniforms is that they don't all have the same TV numbers on the sleeve...and that the name and helmet logo really need to go. The uniform design, though, is fine...as long as Portis and Taylor aren't messing with it!

It's a very strong likelihood that the Redskins will be wearing white for all 16 games this year. It was 12, 13 times a year during Gibbs' first tenure and that's how I also came to appreciate the burgundy jerseys.

But I'd like to see them update in this way -- a hybrid that's not too far from the current design but with the throwback colors.

Those are the true burgundy and gold. The current ones are cherry red and yellow, thanks to Vince Lombardi.
