buildingmaint
I just heard on N.f.l LIVE that Ken Whisenhunt turned down the Raiders head coach job. Cujo
I also heard that Bobby Petrino from Lousiville turned them down this week.Who would wanna work for Alice Davis?? Dude fires head coaches more than he changes jumpsuits.
Lonewolf-Superbeast
Unless your name is Art Shell, the lifespan of head coaches in the other O-town last less than 3 seasons.Don't you wonder why Jon Gruden was in such a hurry to leave? Simple coaches that come in want full control over the team. Davis doesn't allow it, acting as GM and Assistant Head Coach. He's every players dream and every coaches nightmare. I would have thought that they would have went after Pittsburgh's Russ Grimm. Completely shocked when they pulled a 180 to try for Whisenhunt. As a matter of fact, I wish they would take Grimm off our hands.Oakland has a history of picking up drug addicts, people who want to litterally kill another player, and untalented hacks of the league. Discrim
heh, I need the money, I'll send my near-blank resume on any account, it'd be more legible than the application I put in at the mall a couple hours ago and I have an equal (lack of a) shot of getting either job A strong mind gets high off success, a weak mind gets high off bull
brinkeguthrie
Davis needs to step aside. He must be 90 years old- they showed him on tape last night shuffling along on the sidewalk hunched straight over using a walker, they shouted at him MR DAVIS! HAVE YOU FOUND YOUR MAN YET?"Uh.............I'm not looking for a man."WE MEAN, A COACH.old ugly decaying stadium, a senior-moment owner who wants to run everything- it's a coaches nightmare. NJTank
Al Davis needs to step back thje game has passed him by his methods may have worked in the 70s but they dont work with the salary cap, and his constent interference with coaches make this job undesirable. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com

StarrDogg
The Raiders had L.A. all to themselves after the Rams moved first. They should of just stayed down there. They would eventually have gotten a new stadium or a dramatically renovated L.A. Coliseum.
FiddySicks
old ugly decaying stadium What are you talking about? The Coliseum may be old, but it is a heluva lot nicer than Monstrosity Park in Candlestick. I seriously cannot figure out what everyone has against that stadium. Sure it doesnt have Field Turf or an extra hi tech reatracable roof or whatnot, but its still a nice stadium. Cujo
As of today, it's looking like Al Davis' next bitch eerrr head coach of the Raiders will be James Lofton or Art Shell. I dunno who else they're going to interview but if they wanted to hire any of these guys they probably would have done it by now.

Comparing it to Candlestick is not exactly much of a beauty contest, either.

Saint Zephyr III
Excerpt form ESPN.com:After considering outsiders such as Ken Whisenhunt, Bobby Petrino and Mike Martz, the Raiders went with one of their own and hired Art Shell as their new coach.Shell will be announced Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET as the new coach of the Raiders. He replaces Norv Turner, who was fired after two seasons and went to the 49ers as offensive coordinator. In hiring Shell, Raiders boss Al Davis was able to correct a move he said was a mistake more than a decade ago. Davis fired Shell after the 1994 season. Shell, who was 56-41 as the Raiders head coach from 1989 to 1994, will get a chance to right that wrong.Shell was working for the NFL when he was called by Davis last week to interview for the job. Shell flew to Oakland and interviewed last Thursday. Once Whisenhunt, the Steelers offensive coordinator, decided to stay with the Steelers and informed the Raiders of his intentions Thursday, Davis put in a call to Shell.Shell, who was in Tampa, Fla., working for the league, got on a flight as soon as possible and made it to the Raiders' offices Friday. After meeting with Davis most of Friday afternoon, he was offered the job and his agent worked out the contract Friday evening.Shell, the first black head coach in modern NFL history, becomes the seventh one currently in the league. Of the 10 openings this offseason, the only other black coach hired was Herman Edwards, who was traded from the New York Jets to the Kansas City Chiefs.Shell had been working as the senior vice president of football operations and development for the NFL.Oakland has been without a coach since Turner was fired Jan. 3, giving Shell little time to put together a staff and set his offseason priorities before the scouting combine begins Feb. 22.Shell made eight Pro Bowls and won two Super Bowls as a standout offensive lineman in a 15-year career with the Raiders that led to his induction into the Hall of Fame. He replaced the fired Mike Shanahan during the 1989 season and lasted through 1994, the team's final season in Los Angeles.Other than Jon Gruden, Shell was the last head coach of the Raiders to have a winning record. Mike White, Joe Bugel, Bill Callahan and Turner followed Shell and failed to produce a winning record. In the end, Davis kept it in the family and hired Shell. Huh...guess a minority candidate was chosen this year, and it happens to be the first minority coach that was ever chosen.Thoughts?
