NHL secondary logo's

Forgive me here, but why are designers seemingly obsessed with having secondary shoulder logo's on hockey jerseys? (Pro and Fantasy)

Is it that neccesary to cover the shoulder area on a hockey uniform? It seems no new team or jersey can exist without a secondary shoulder logo, whether it compliments the uniform or not. 90% of the time the logo looks terrible on it's own but everyone and their dog want to see it on a third uniform. Why the obsession?

In the original six era, Chicago was the only team that used a secondary logo, and up until the mid nineties, was the one of the few teams that had a really decent secondary IMO. Then all of sudden everything changed. Everyone had a secondary logo and a third jersey. Some of these were/are ok, but most are really lame or just unnecessary.

what are your thoughts?

Wait a second...

Chicago used secondaries in the Original Six era?

I thought they were a recent innovation, an idea created by a certain marketing group out of Chicago.

I guess I am a victim of false information.

Would you call that a...

plan for gaming? No, that's not right.

Back on topic, I think that the main reason that any team has a secondary logo is because they can make money off it. I'm not saying this is a bad thing. Some secondary logos are better than the original (C-Bus, Carolina [not Hartford, get over it ladies {no offense Babydoll and that hot LAX chick}]). They are the popular thing to put on shoulders right now, and from where I sit they don't look that bad.

In a building built with brick and covered in ivy? ;)

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008
