New Era Authentic Fitted Women's Cap

I searched and didn't see this anywhere else. I found it interesting that they are 100% wool, although it appears the low profile 59FIFTYs are still wool as well.

Detroit Tigers Authentic Fitted Women's Cap

New York Yankees Authentic Fitted Women's Cap

San Francisco Giants Authentic Fitted Women's Cap

I would imagine these will see a limited release, like the low profile 59FIFTYs, which is a shame for those of us looking for an option to the billboard profile 59FIFTYs.

I've seen these at Angels Stadium as far back as about two seasons ago. Don't seem that much different to me really, kinda sat higher (yeah, higher) and had more room in back if I remember correctly.

Wow, really? I didn't know women could play in the MLB. Some of the dumbest crap I've ever seen.

Yeah.

Really stupid idea to market products to 51% of the country's population, isn't it?

True, but how many of them are baseball fans?

  1. More than you may realize. Anecdotally, I go to parks all over the country, and I see a lot of women in the stands. More measurably, there's the whole capitalism thing - baseball wouldn't offer more and more products marketed towards women if they weren't selling.
  2. Those who aren't may become baseball fans. Having caps and things are a great way for the baseball fans in their lives to help get them hooked.

So where's the logic in not gearing products to women?

I'm not saying you shouldn't market to women. I just wasn't sure how many actually liked it, compared to just those whose boyfriends/husbands like it and follow them.

I don't think anyone is going to say it's dumb to market to women. I've just seen it done in better ways. Not too long ago all t-shirts were kinda the same, but they made a cut for women and even put sports teams on there. Good idea! Then is the obvious pink-themed sports shirts and jerseys. Sell like crazy. These two play to the fact that women's figures are different and many women have an affinity for pink. Smart.

But since the hats aren't pink or styled differently, and heads are similar in shape, I don't see the point, outside of $. It's a hat. I just wonder if women will say this is dumb, or buy them up. We shall see.

Now who wants to sell women's extension cords with me? Women's toothpaste?

Ah, but there's the rub. Heads aren't similar in shape. Women in our society tend to have longer hair, and from bucfan's description above these caps take that into account.

But I was specifically addressing pittfan11's thoughtful post:

If ability to play was the prerequisite for authentics, few men would be allowed to purchase them.

Makes sense. More room in the back for hair, and sat higher so the face isn't too obstructed and sunglasses may be worn and stuff.

Women are more apt to buy something that fits them nicer. Hence the different t-shirts and stuff.
