Interesting ECHL jersey find...

While web browsing on my laptop, I just happened to stumble upon this website here, which displays game-worn jerseys for all the ECHL teams, including some now-defunct teams.

Some of these are really interesting to look at. Some look rather nice. Others, particularly the Richmond Renegades (IMO), look just terribly bad. But it's fun looking back at all these jerseys, and the team logos, that looked decent as I watched the league grow from where it was back when Pensacola first got the Ice Pilots (I never knew the Pilots went black-and-red for a very short time) to now, with teams on the whole other side of the country. (I also didn't realize that, for a short time, one of these teams actually used what looks like magenta as a team color.

Anyway--I figured I'd post this link here so you all could see these for yourself. Again...an interesting find. Have fun looking at those jerseys in that link up above...

That site also has stuff from other leagues.

The snake numbers on the Columbus (GA) Cottonmouths would never look right on an NHL team.

They don't look right...period.

If nothing else...it was definitely an original idea. Not to say that I like them...but that was a rather inventive spin on jersey numbering, no less.

Going back and looking at all those, though--some of those logos were just beyond bad--and again, I'm looking squarely at the Richmond Renegades (teal and purple...gotta love it!), the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks (I don't know what they were trying to do with those jerseys, either), and, of course, the (in)famous Toledo Storm. Yikes. Oh--and what in the WORLD was up with those Columbus Chill joints? Those things, to me, are laughable at best.

However, going back over those, the ECHL had some good names, though, like the Peoria Riverman and one of my favorites, the Lexington Men-o-War. And some rather interesting logos, too, like the Jacksonville Lizard Kings. (Lime and magenta together with black...let's see who'd have the cojones to try that in this day and age!!!)

That's actually pretty cool the way they have beads as if they're around the player's neck. For those unfamiliar, the gold spots are doubloons.

Great jerseys on that site and undoubtably some of the worst nicknames ever in sports. Lizard Kings? Boardwalk Bullies? Meh...

One of the worst team name/jersey combos ever:

I totally disagree, because it played perfectly with the IHL team they fed talent to: The Indianapolis Ice.

And as far as jerseys go, they were one of a kind back in the day. There were--and are--ECHL teams with FAR worse jerseys than this one(even though, the black on gray is probably the weekest of the combos they had).

I WILL agree with you if you want to talk about jersey style versus typeface for the name plate and numerals.

You make good points. My main issues are the graphics, the 'sideways' logo, and the use of the city name in the jersey logo, which just screams 'minor league' (I'd say 'bush league' but I'm trying to be kind). This just looks like something a parent would put together for a cash-strapped junior high team. I know nothing about the league or team - in what time frame were these jerseys worn? I ask because the graphics look very 70's.

Some of the decisions made on those jerseys are very questionable. Wacky(understatement) number fonts, weird themes, logo creep, busy striping, and gradients all over the place make the normal looking jerseys seem amazing. I love that Pensacola Ice Pilots 06-07 Home and the San Diego Gulls 04-05 Home. Beauty.

It was the ECHL in the infancy, of course it's going to scream minor league. That's like knocking a 5 year old's coloring for not being within the lines then calling it bush league.

I mean, we all can't be:

I mean, I would hate for that to ever become a trend. I mean, seriously.

Ugh, then take five minutes and explore what the other options were then:
