jtthasportfreak
Ralph Lawler certainly deserves better. Not for what was said on the Prime Ticket broadcast, but for all he's had to endure as the voice of the Los Angeles Clippers. The "Fire Dunleavy" has been yelled at home games since the end of last season and is festering once again. As of the time I wrote, Los Aingeles (as Lawler sez it) had a 16 point lead near the end of three quarter time tonite. Certainly your mind tends to slip and tempers may flare when times are brutal, (1-2 on recent road trip losing to MEMPHIS by 15) but these remarks in the link were deemed inappropriate by broadcaster Fox Sports. Coincedentally this comes on the same day Donald Sterling places an ad in page six of the L.A. Times business section touting his charitable foundation summit. Comments\complaints\interjections ?PS - Why do Lakers championship banners continue to hang in plain sight at Clippers games ? I haven't the slightest. I'm not defending them at all. Oh-me-oh-my

Oh-me-oh-myNice of you to go from point to point.1-In accordance to prior issues this year, a suspension is understandable. The player did nothing wrong, yet the announce team wanted to make a political issue of where he was born. Plus, Matt Pinto needs to move from radio. 2- Banners are up to stay up, like with the LA Kings (remember the Kings and AGE operate Staples Center). If the Vlippers dislike all others banners they can either earn a few or move.
HedleyLamarr
So the offensive part was saying "Eye-ranian"? Wow.Does this mean folks from Detroit will get mad if I say "Dee-troit"?
The_Admiral
I don't know if it was outright offensive so much as just mildly boorish silliness. Getting offended over "eye-ranian" is especially a reach, considering I hear more people say it that way than "uh-rahn-ian." (I say "uh-rahn-ian.") Overreaction.I'm guessing they're not allowed to cover the Lakers' banners. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
TFoA
So wait...the viewer didn't complain about the Borat quip, but complained that they mispronounced Iran? And from what I'm reading in the comments from people that were watching the game, the comments were more in jest than anything. HUGE overreaction on Fox's part.I mean, you got Donald "Get These Black People Out of My Building & Replace Them with Asians" Sterling running that organization, and yet these are the guys being suspended. oddball
Aren't the Clippers considered the third tenant in Staples Center behind the Lakers and the Kings? I only ask that because as a third tenant who hasn't won anything, why should the main tenant who has won multiple championships move their banners for you? Like someone said earlier, don't like it, win some Championships or heck win more than the Lakers. But I don't know of any team that removes their banners because they are sharing the building with someone else, and you don't think the Lakers have placed their banners for all to see at all times, no matter who is playing in Staples Center? Darn right they have, they and the Kings owners built the friggin' thing and the Clippers are just leaches.

Republican Guards, get it? haha I didn't see (nor have I since looked up) what the dude looked like, but if he looks somewhat like Borat and they were joking around about it, then that comment really isn't out of line. And people need to get over the fact that we don't pronounce things exactly as they are pronounced in their native tongues in English. We don't go around pronouncing France "Fronce" as those who speak French do. It really burns me up anymore when newscasters say "Pah-ki-stahn" instead of Pakistan. Did someone from Pakistan or someone of Pakistani descent write NPR, NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC and CNN and tell them they were offended by the way they were pronouncing the word? The_Admiral
I understand anglicization, but there are still right ways and wrong ways to pronounce foreign places and names. Why does that pronuncation of Pakistan "burn you up"? Figure that it's congruent with how we pronounce Kazakhstan (unless you say it "kazzik-stan"), Dagestan, Uzbekistan, or even Azerbaijan, and it makes sense. You don't need to pronounce "Iran" exactly as it'd be pronouned in Farsi, but something close to "uh ron" is generally acceptable. If you refer to the former Persia by the name of a Flock of Seagulls song, someone might hear you and think you're a rube. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Lee.
Is it me or is it always the white kids spouting off about free speech and the right to say what they want? You know, the ones that aren't being oppressed or made fun of for the way they look or speak?I really don't have an opinion on the story itself, it's all silly and stupid, but I'd be a lot more sympathetic to the cause if it weren't the caucasian teenagers who were always going on about their perceived rights and freedoms being trampled.Carry on.
