gosioux76
Wow. That's pretty weak. I hope they get a decent look. I'm kind of getting concerned that we haven't seen ANY of the new looks for 2010. Hopefully not a repeat of the green blue and black. If you think they're late on uniforms, consider that the UFL has yet to unveil the locations of its two expansion franchises for the next season, though they're widely expected to be in Omaha and San Antonio. I'm hoping this league gains strength, but it's hard to ignore its occasional fly-by-night attributes.
Burmy
^Later this month the UFL is going to unveil the two expansion cities...From what I hear, Salt Lake City is a lock (good rival for Las Vegas), and the next one is a tossup between Omaha and San Antonio (San Antonio looked like a favorite, but folks are worried having a team at the Alamodome might distract away from UTSA's football program kicking off in 2011)And yes, the UFL does plan to have more unique uniforms for this season (the single template was just for the "Premiere" season)-I trust they will be unveiled soon-colors notwithstanding, the logos actually looked pretty good. BrianVlietDesign
So far, all of these names are lame. I mean, Mountain Lions is alright, but Sacramento could have done so much better. Hartford is the same in my opinion. Colonials just seems too generic for my taste buds. NYCFC - MLS CUP CHAMPIONS - 2021

I'm not fussed about the league enough that I would've gone to check.Yes, a write-in option was available. That said, it seems to me that the odds of Mountain Lions coming out of nowhere to garner more votes than any other write-in suggestion and any of the predetermined choices would be awfully slim.In any event, the name will be shortened to Lions in pretty short order, as both print and web-based media aren't going to sacrifice the column inches - either on the page or screen - to repeatedly accommodate Sacramento Mountain Lions or Mountain Lions every time the team is referred to. Hell, even the similarly character-heavy San Francisco Forty-Niners can be abbreviated to Niners or - better yet - 49ers in print.

It makes me wonder whether they'll eventually scrap the whole identity to avoid having another "Lions" professional franchise. Not for trademark issues, per se, but just to have some variety in the pro football world.
Sodboy13
I would think that if it's getting shortened to "Lions", they'd scrap it to avoid the immediate and overwhelming association with crippling failure. FiddySicks
It's a bit of a stretch but the eastern Sacramento area extends to the foothills of the Sierras. I guess there are some Mountain Lions up near Auburn and Newcastle somewhere that make this name not completely awful. Still pretty ehh, though. gosioux76
Of the choices the UFL offered in their name the team contest, I favored Condors. In hindsight, I'm glad they went with something else. I hold out hope that the Condors is ultimately used for an L.A. NFL franchise (assuming, of course, it isn't a relocated Minnesota Vikings). The "M" alliteration between "-Mento" and "Mountain" raelly has a pleasant mouth feel. Welcome to DrunjFlix
Brian in Boston
I suggested that they should have gone with Sacramento Steelheads and been done with it.In any event, in all likelihood, we won't have to worry about the UFL's team names in a season or two. crashcarson15
California Cougars would've sufficed if that's the direction they wanted to go. Not a great name, but they're both better than the original 4 team names. Hopefully the expansions don't disappoint.

powersurge
Sacremento Mountain Lions???? Yet another glaring example of why the general public has no f%$king clue about anything when it comes to pro sports identities and should not be responsible for choosing a team's name.
