Wizards of Oz: Duel in the Locker

Apparently, the league called in the Sixers and had them instruct security to remove any hand held signs that referenced the Arenas situation, including such non-offensive ones like "Disarm Arenas!" and "Gilbert don't shoot!"

They also chanted "don't shoot me". I wonder if it was more like "please don't shoot me clap clap clap-clap clap". I'd know, but you couldn't pay me enough to tune in to a Sixers game.

Brilliant this is the first thing Philly fans did I actually like. Arenas opened the door for this and fans heckling him is part of the consequence.

Stern needed to pull the trigger so to speak, he admitted having guns and the NBA has a no guns in the locker policy so for that alone he is going to miss games, once you investigate than you decide how long Arenas sits.

like the new avatar? I cant believe Arenas, what an idiot. he made a statement about guns not being funny, and then fakes shooting at his teammates the very next day. i say, no more gilbert for the season

Not to mention before the whole locker room ordeal came out, he made a shot and flashed the bang bang at his teammates. He is incredibly immature and will only find out what the justice system is all about when you make a joke about it.

Does anyone really think that Arenas gives a f***? He's basically turned this whole thing into a joke. His attitude seems to be, oh well, I've already got millions of dollars and play for a terrible team. Some time off would actually be nice right now.

So I take it "Nerf Night" is out of the question in DC?

Suspend him the rest of this year, all of next year and in '11-12 he must remain in the NBDL until after the All-Star break. I think that sends a message that you simply cannot tarnish the image of yourself, your teammates, your team and the entire National Basketball Association.

Didn't they both turn guns on each other? Why wasn't Crittenton suspended?

Well apparently according to the Washington Post, Gil placed his guns in Crittentons locker and left a note saying "Pick One" and Crittenton pulled out his own piece and loaded it and cocked it. Why wasnt Crittenton suspended? Great question. Star treatment in the NBA in role reversal?

I was kinda thinking the same thing...other than the investigation, not sure if this really hurts him, unless he didn't save up his money, then this is gonna hurt his wallet a lot. But yeah, other than that, this is basically a vacation for the dude (unless he gets indicted.)

That being said, he was due for a long injury anyway, so it's not like this messes up his schedule or anything. :P

In all seriousness, the Wizards need to blow that team up & begin a rebuilding process. This was supposed to be the season that the Wizards contended for a title (Yes, seriously. Sporting News had them ranked #3 in preseason power rankings & more than a few publications had them winning the Southeast division & going deep into the playoffs. So much for that.), & instead they're slightly better than they were last year. It's time for them to start from scratch, & getting rid of Gil & that monster of a contract would be a start.

You can't forcibly demote a veteran player to the NBDL and your suspension is too long. You're angry. Go do something cathartic.

I hear going to a shooting range is great for that.

I like the way you think but the league will never do that to one of their superstars.

I've always kind of had the feeling that while Gilbert Arenas is an amazing basketball player, he doesn't really like playing it as much as is required to be an NBA player.
