FiddySicks
If the Bums had stayed in NYC and the Giants moved to Minnesota, surely it killed the old rivalry.Absolutely. From what I've heard the old rivalry was fading pretty quickly in NYC and the dual move to California was not only for the travel partnership, but as well in hopes of preserving the rivalry. I'm not so sure I believe that it was a major intent of both clubs, but it sure as hell worked regardless. Gothamite
I'm having a hard time believing that the rivalry was "fading pretty quickly", except in as far as the Giants were struggling to retain/build their fanbase. The Bridgeport, CT Sunday Herald called the rivalry "one of baseball's hottest" in 1957. DEAD!
If the Dodgers never left Brooklyn:We wouldn't have the Miracle MetsThe Expos would still have had Triple-A baseball... so would Toronto. The Beatles would be playing in front a sellout crowd at Yankee StadiumBill Buckner would be remembered as a good first-baseman.The Jets would not have won Super Bowl IIIRick Monday would not have made that great play... and Montrealers would never have to live through Blue Monday.... JFK would not have been assassinated man would not have landed on the moonRichard Nixon would not have resignedGeorge W Bush would never have owned the Texas RangersSaddam Hussein would have been just another general in the Iraqi armyReggie Jackson would have been "Mr. September"The CCSLC would have been the CCFMC: The Chris Creamer Folk Music Community I saw, I came, I left. dfwabel
Not saying that these new comments are irrelevant, but I hope that those who posted today realize that 'DnBronc" has just eight posts and all eight revive threads which were dormant for months, if not years. Drakonius26
The groin-grabbingly awesome Stadium Pages website has all kinds of pics of the proposed Dodgers park(s).http://www.stadiumpage.com/stpages/bkln.htmlThe proposed stadium right before the Boob, looks awesome, and a lot of these designs look rather ahead of their time, so it would've been interesting to see the ideas really come to life in an alternate world. BlueSky
Pretty interesting thread in that the Dodgers' and Giants' moves turned out to be so influential. The groin-grabbingly awesome Stadium Pages website has all kinds of pics of the proposed Dodgers park(s).http://www.stadiumpage.com/stpages/bkln.htmlSaw this and thought, "Wow, BBTV, you're not overselling that much, are you?"Then I got into the site, specifically the Stadium Graveyard section, and now feel BBTV may have understated its greatness. It's fantastic and if you have any interest whatsoever in sports history and/or vintage photos, pack a lunch and get comfortable before you start looking through there. On topic, what would these look like today? Would anybody wear their belt buckle to the side like this guy? Have gloves evolved a little? Would they still be wearing these? Then there's this...so rich with historic goodness that I don't know where to start. And finally...had no idea there had ever been baseball in the Coliseum. So to expand on the thread...what if the Rams had never left Cleveland? No Dawg Pound, a Goat Yard instead? SB XIV would have been Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland; Jerome Bettis, Eric Dickerson, and Sam Bradford on the shores of Lake Erie, but where would Otto Graham and Jim Brown have played? What team would have been in L.A.? In St. Louis? Or would the Cardinals never have left? But what if they'd never left Chicago? Who'd be in Phoenix? My head hurts. Gothamite
What if the dodgers never left brooklyn... Then we'd still see these on the field, but they wouldn't be ironic: The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
