gingerbreadmann
Russell's legend is as large as it is precisely because he was a black man fearlessly excelling in a city that didn't exactly embrace him. I wouldn't say Boston is a racist city today, but it sure as hell was in Russell's time. You were talking about his local legend before, though. If he was white and the city had embraced him (and therefore his accomplishments) more than they did, I might be living in the state Commonwealth of Russellchusetts. Saintsfan
Honestly, I'd take Russell as the face of the Celtics. For a start, Bird has also been associated with another franchise, as coach and executive. But Russell was at the hub of THE Celtics team. Also I would take Durant as teh face of OKC. I don't think of the Supersonics and Thunder as the same franchise, although technically it is. 2011/12 WFL Champions

He was definitely their main man for the first few years. I guess Vince Carter is literally the most "in-your-face" guy they've had, which is why so many people (including me) thought of him. NJTank
Yeah but that is the problem with the Raptors.Stoudamire left on bad terms, Carter burnt bridges and Bosh could not wait to leave. Carter won a dunk contest, won a playoff series had the Raptors a game a way from Eastern Conference Finals and had the nickname "Air Canada" www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com

CubsFanBudMan
No Kareem for the Lakers? ... I don't understand. It's either an oversight or you're taking him for granted. I'm not going to try to read people's minds, but it doesn't make me happy. It's definitely a slight. *I* feel slighted.

The_Admiral
Haha, didn't Kahn just bitch that the draft is rigged because he only got the #2 pick? I mean, he's not necessarily wrong, but you have to be a real blue-ribbon dumbass to publicly call the NBA rigged. I wonder what the league will do with that $100,000. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I don't think this (or any of the other list)has to be a popular or positive figure. or example, I think the face of the Clippers is Donald Sterling. I saw, I came, I left. Lights Out
Who else is lining up to take the Minnesota job? Exactly. Also, Kevin McHale managed to cling on to his job for 14 long years. You think Sterling's cheap? Glen Taylor just might be the cheapest, most clueless, and most stubborn owner in the NBA, if not all of sports. The_Admiral
It just goes unnoticed because everyone in Minnesota is inherently cheap and stubborn. Why, I have it on good account that Glen Taylor refused Mrs. Olafson's patented black-bean-boogie casserole three times at the last Timberwolves potluck! ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
