Reggie Bush Accepts $100,000 from agents

Tisk...Tisk...NO more heismann

The Heisman is awarded by the Downtown Athletic Club and (I believe) is in no way affiliated with the NCAA. He should be able to keep the trophy.

It shouldn't shock anyone that college football players are getting money. At least USC got some return on their investment as opposed to the guys paying players at other schools.

Lets see this get reported in a more repatable place, and in more places, and lets see the NCAA investigation before anyone comments.

Yahoo sports isn't a reputable source? It's not someone reporting it on their blog it is 2 professional writers working for a publicly traded media company that has a news division. It's no different than if ESPN, CBS, or FOX sports broke the story.

Bingo! This just sounds like some witchhunt that yahoo is trying to gain some kind of journalistic merit. The fishy part is that the article itself mentions repeatedly that the agent put stuff on his American Express card and was paid back, as well as the fact that one of their own writers wrote an editorial solely based on his own company's story mandating that USC be stripped of its 2004 championship. Seems really fishy that someone writes about his own company's story at the same time that it's published.

Plus, remember, this is the same NCAA that tried to sanction Utah basketball after Majerus bought a player breakfast at Denny's the day that his father died.

I'm doubting Yahoo the way you guys are. Especially since all the other news sources have picked up on this.

As for stripping USC of their title can that be done? Technically speaking the NCAA doesn't award a I-A football championship. The BCS and the polls are something independent. Thus can the NCAA strip something that was never given out?

EXCELLENT point.

I think I agree the most with what they were saying on Around the Horn today. It's one thing if a school gives a player gifts as an incentive to enroll. It's a completely other thing for agents to try to sign a college player with gifts for services which will be performed after the player goes pro.

In terms of the Heisman, yes, that should be considered. But in terms of the 2004 title, that shouldn't even be brought into the picture. How much of a shame would it be if the first 1-A football title in history be stripped because of the actions of agents trying to sway one player.

If anything, go after the agents, not the schools and players.

In order to win the Heisman you must be NCAA Eligible at the time of play. If this accusation turns out to be true, he would lose his eligibility, he would have to forfeit the trophy, and USC would have to clear their record books.

Save the slugalo.

Seriously who freaking cares? High School players even get paid off by alumni for big time wins. This #1) shouldnt be ANY kind of a shock and #2) shouldnt matter in the slightest. He was gonna get paid the big bucks eventually. The weight of your wallet has absolutely ZERO outcome on good of a College football player you are. This is getting as stupid as the Tour De Whothefu*kcaresbecausenooneiswatchinganywaybecauseitsstupidandyouneverhaveaclearwinneranywaysowhywasteyourtime.

The NCAA, that's who. Stupid elibility standards. I mean come on, who cares if a kid and his family get $100,000 of extra benefits under the table? It's not hurting anyone right? As much money as Reggie Bush made USC by himself, why can't he see some return on HIS investment, right?

Look, the rules may be bull :censored:, but they're the rules. If you don't like 'em, change the damn rules. If you break the rules, you pay. Simple as that. Just because it's Reggie Bush doesn't mean that the rules didn't apply to him and his family.
